Dc is 17 months old and every meal time he chucks his food on the floor ! How can I stop this ? I don't want him to go hungry but also don't want to encourage eating not up the table !

Spoon feed?
Give him a toy to hold?
(No experience of this age and stage so just guessing)

Take it away. Every time.

He does use a spoon/ fork I've also sat and fed him which I held the bowl so he couldn't throw but I'd like him to feed himself as he's done that for a while now xx

Hand the bit to eat to him. Don’t give him access to the whole bowl

Hand over one piece of food at a time

No more comes until that bit is eaten

End of story

Take the food away would also be my advice. I wouldn't spoon feed a child this age. Children need to be able listen to their bodies and to regulate their food intake themselves to minimise the risk of growing into overweight adults

Agree with one piece at a time.

It's not helpful to let meal times become a struggle. Another approach is to make a range of food (in hand-sized pieces) and give him free rein. If he swipes the whole lot to the floor, make sympathetic "oh dear, all gone" noises but don't offer more food.

Kids this age often want to eat your food instead, so let them ... and pretend that you want to eat their food!
