Supermarket cancelled my Christmas delivery slot!

During a call I made about something else, the call handler I spoke to in their wisdom, became confused and managed to remove the slot I had for today. Phoned as soon as I realised and during 4 phone calls that took over an hour managed to work really hard and do absolutely nothing to re instate my slot. Was relying on that as can’t get out to get things myself really.
Have spoken again this morning and now been advised to use their quick delivery service so all is not lost but don’t think I’ve ever been so stressed! Anyone else had this happen and equally traumatised?

My local Asda has just (in the last few hours) released a load of slots from 7am-3pm Christmas Eve, so worth double checking!

Every year I wonder why people wait up until stupid o'clock to get a Xmas delivery slot then complain when things are missing
from their delivery.
I just buy all the non perishables in the weeks before when delivery slots are normal. Then go out first thing on the 23rd to get the fresh stuff. So if something isn't available I can choose my own subs. It's always busy but not insanely so.

@BigYellowDucky Yep! Absolutely everything bar the butter & carrots. The poor older gentleman who brought it was mortified. Obviously I was kind to him but the lack of apology from customer service was more infuriating than the lack of shopping.

Annoyingly, upon investigation 🕵️‍♀️ from reports from friends who went into Morrisons on Christmas Eve daytime, their shelves were surprisingly full! Turns out that Morrisons use a warehouse rather than the stores. Which is why when you have a virtual trolley full of shopping and a click & collect slot booked, if you then change to delivery, suddenly half your shopping is out of stock as their delivery warehouse is so small. Never again!

Our Sainsbury's have slots available every day until 24th. I was really surprised.
There's not much choice of time, and they cost £4.50, but still good.

BigYellowDucky · 20/12/2024 21:35

@vegtrug you've just cemented my habit of booking Xmas delivery slots for around the 20th/21st (mine was today) to give me time to get to a supermarket for anything forgotten or unforeseen 😀.

I've had a weird thing. Ordered a bunch of booze from Sainsbury's weeks ago to go to DS and DDIL's house. She asked what time slot. Checked online - no record of order. Eek! Placed last minute order with Majestic. But got a text today to say my order is arriving tomorrow morning! Still no record online of any order. Interesting to see what arrives. An empty box?

I braved the shops yesterday and got almost everything - all with a use by after Christmas. I had a bit of a hundred mile stare when I met my friend for coffee afterwards and needed strong liquor last night.

Despite being a Thursday morning it was a traumatising experience because it was heaving in the supermarket but far better than than booking a delivery and then having things disappear from a basket as being out of stock. But all I need to do now is dash in somewhere for a bit of salad and bread.

I am also really old-fashioned - I like to choose my meat and vegetables in person and find that in the last the couple of years it is even more important as quality has fallen to keep prices down.

SweetDreamsTonight · 20/12/2024 22:19

I don't bother with online orders as almost every one I've had items were substituted and had to go to the shop anyway.
My Christmas shop will be tomorrow morning.. Rise at 6am up to shop for 7 and get it all done before it gets busy. 😎

Yep! It had that same effect on me too. Reminded myself of this to help me cope with the hell on earth that was M&S food hall earlier today 🙉

Could you have ordered using a different email? So a different login? I've had that before

Not cancelled exactly but had Morrisons hand me a bag with a block of (substituted) butter and 1 bag of carrots from a £165 order which contained EVERYTHING. It was 9pm on Christmas Eve (I thought I was lucky to get a slot so close to Christmas). Obviously all the shops were closed and Christmas was completely ruined.
Once customer services finally answered, all I got was "Well all I can do is arrange for it to come on the 27th. Obviously as I'm sure you can understand we've been very busy with it being Christmas"

ZERO apology.

Got some pasta ready meals from Tesco express as they didn't even have any potatoes, deli ham, nothing that could even pass for a Christmas dinner type meal!

Tbf relying on a 9pm slot on Christmas Eve was a bit silly. If I had missed getting a 23rd slot, I'd just brave the supermarkets in person. That was bound to go wrong.

PickledPurplePickle · 21/12/2024 04:13

Gosh how stressful for you, I bet the employee would have felt awful if they had realised

I’m not surprised that they couldn’t get you another slot though as they are booked up weeks in advance and just don’t have the space / drivers to fit in an extra order

I’m glad you managed to get a quick slot at least

Who knows? But the order arrived! Panic order on its way so we'll be floating in gin.
