Disappointed child - winter bugs 🤒

4yo has been practicing so hard for their nursery Christmas performance and has been SO excited for it. It’s literally been hot topic of conversation in our house for weeks.
Today is FINALLY the big day 🎄

…and DC has been up half the night with a temp. Snotty and coughing this morning with temps of 38.7 🙄🫠

DC has been up for hours already obviously feeling under the weather (although claims to be fine). I explained a few hours ago about how they couldn’t go to nursery today because of the temperature and we have a very upset 4yo on our hands 😩

I made the mistake of offering to set up the livingroom to do the performance for DH and I 🫠 Jeeeez, that was the wrong move 😂😅

Any more experienced parents know how to navigate the 4yo disappointed rage? 🙈

Tell them it's been cancelled? Nursery sent you a text to say that they're closed because if bad weather/ no heating?

Latenightreader · 18/12/2024 07:49

My 6yo came down with flu at the end of last week. She has missed her Rainbows cinema trip, my choir performance (which she loves, mainly because she stays up an hour later and there are snacks after) and I missed it too, and her first nativity performance. Hoping she's OK to go in today (no fever since Monday morning) so she can take part in the nativity today... She's not realised about yesterday's performance yet but had a good sob over missing choir... it is horrible at this time of year when they miss out on so much. I panic bought an extra lego set to make up!

KindLemur · 18/12/2024 07:50

Could you not have taken her in just for the performance ???

No they can’t. Why should the rest of the children get unwell. Selfish!

@YSianiFlewog I dont love the idea of lying tbh.

@Latenightreader aww that’s awful 😩 hopefully she’s better today and can go in 🤞🏼

@KindLemur If it was just a runny nose then nursery wouldn’t be an issue but I wouldn’t send a child in with a high temp 😅

@Alicantespumante Absolutely agree. Plus, with a temp I’d rather keep an eye on DC.

And give everyone else a nasty cold before Christmas? Yeah, great idea 🙄

KindLemur · 18/12/2024 10:26

lol I work in a school one kid coming in with a cold isnt going to make a difference, we’ve had kids in with d&v, high temps, no voice, for weeks, our head has a ‘don’t send home unless it’s life or death’ policy too so it’s been an interesting few weeks. I just think everyone is gonna be ill anyway let the poor kid have her 30 mins of glory or however long the nativity is

Just because your school thinks it's acceptable doesn't mean it is!

Well that sounds very shit if your school.

Also OP is talking about a nursery. They are often stricter because they aren't obsessed with attendance.

Latenightreader · 18/12/2024 13:15

Sadly she’s lying on the sofa having been tired out standing up for long enough to have a shower, and she has been too tired to open her advent calendar this week! The soft play birthday party after school tomorrow is looking increasingly unlikely too. I’m supposed to be the elf when Father Christmas visits the school on Friday, and not convinced that will be happening either. She’s missing so many fun things and I am so choked for her.
