Would you consider a Florida holiday next summer?

Given the political situation that incoming President might create, would this make you reconsider a family holiday to Florida next summer?

No

alfhroa · 17/12/2024 18:31

Whilst I was very unhappy with the result why wouldn't you? Moral stance? Fear? I'm going to the US next year, hasn't occurred to me to cancel. As a tourist I can't say the states felt any different under any of the number of presidents that have been in place when I've been, not even Trump.

dairydebris · 17/12/2024 18:32

Florida is awful in summer. Absolutely not.

Upstartled · 17/12/2024 18:40

Yes.

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 17/12/2024 18:41

At any time, just 🤢

umdontdothat · 17/12/2024 18:45

No
Florida is beautiful.

stargirl1701 · 17/12/2024 18:49

No.

Gun violence would be my reason.

User346897543 · 17/12/2024 18:49

We went this summer, saw a few Trump flags / car stickers. Had a fab time

stargirl1701 · 17/12/2024 18:49

No.

Gun violence would be my reason.

and one of my main reasons.

Well also that I can get sunshine much nearer home and in almost the same time zone.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 17/12/2024 19:14

Nope. I have a 17yo DD. While its unlikely she'd be pregnant and need sudden medical attention, it's a possibility and not a risk Id be willing to take.

And that's just the start, I honestly believe some form of civil war could break out in the US at some point over the next few years, so fuck that.

gettingolderbutcooler · 17/12/2024 19:15

No.

theresnolimits · 17/12/2024 19:19

I’m just back from two weeks travelling around Florida. Didn’t feel unsafe anywhere. Didn’t see a gun or a Trump poster. Spoke to a lot of Americans who all had different opinions but expressed them politely and sensibly. Don’t believe the hype.

Rocknrollstar · 17/12/2024 19:26

I have friends in Florida. We disagree on politics so we never discuss it. I will be going to see them again in May. People who are pregnant need to be very careful about travelling to the US and check each state individually

User346897543 · 17/12/2024 19:28

We were in Orlando and never felt unsafe

Onlyonekenobe · 17/12/2024 19:28

No, nothing to do with Trump or politics. The weather is very limiting and unpleasant in the summertime.

fluffiphlox · 17/12/2024 19:29

It’s the wrong time of year for Florida.

Chewbecca · 17/12/2024 19:31

He’s already served one term. Chances of issues in Florida as a result of Trump’s return are very very small.

HermioneWeasley · 17/12/2024 19:31

I wouldn’t go to Florida in the summer regardless of the President. I will continue to visit thr US when Trump is president

Oldandcobwebby · 17/12/2024 19:33

Summer in Florida? No way! To be honest, since Brexit destroyed the value of the pound and made things so expensive for us in the US, we haven't even considered going. Since the worst of COVID in 2020, car hire has become outrageously expensive, too. We used to go to America regularly but not now.

Trump getting elected is the icing on the cake of NO!

EliCopter · 17/12/2024 19:34

What a bizarre post. What happened in Florida last time Trump was in office to make you think there'd be a problem this time?

TizerorFizz · 17/12/2024 19:40

I would not go in the summer. Waaay too hot!!!

We are going to USA in May and definitely to a republican state or two. We don’t intend to voice an opinion on their president. I suspect most we meet will be Trump supporters and we will keep our opinions to ourselves. We found in 2016 that Democrats wanted a chat. Happy to have a chat with them.

PrincessAnne4Eva · 17/12/2024 19:42

I lived in the US when Trump was last president. It really made no material difference to my day-to-day life. I'd be more concerned with the heat in Florida in the height of summer and would look to go around February if there's a half term or Easter for two weeks, if school hols are a consideration.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/12/2024 19:42

Yes absolutely.

NarcoosseeLover · 17/12/2024 19:43

I absolutely love Florida summers, hot and humid. Not as keen on the rain in the afternoon, but it usually clears up quickly. We like to travel there between the end of July and sometime in August. Beautiful.

We’re off there in February and July next year. Can’t wait.

My username is based on our Florida holidays as well.

Florida is a good red state anyway, so I doubt you’d notice any difference.

Currently just wondering whether to do the Orlando Informer night in Feb?

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 17/12/2024 19:43

Ive no plans to go the USA ever really. With or without Trump at the helm. I dont understand why Trump having won would make a difference to your plans though?
