Virus (not Covid) has made me completely lose sense of taste! Anyone else had this?

It’s not Covid, I’ve done two tests to be certain.

Utterly vile flu-type virus that made me horizontal for three days, couldn’t eat, aches all over and horrible barking cough.

I am vertical again now thank goodness but left with lingering cough, a cold and TOTAL loss of taste! It can’t just be the congestion, I’ve had way more congested colds/sinus issues before and never lost taste. The closest I can get to tasting anything at all is Strength 7 cheddar, which gives me a slight taste sensation. Nothing else has any flavour at all. I can just about distinguish sweetness and bitterness (coffee), but no actual flavour.

Im worried about my Christmas dinner ☹️😱

Anyone else had this with a virus? I think what I had might have been RSV as it all fits but tbh if could have been any virus, I just know for sure it’s not Covid.

The tests don’t always pick up the current strain - it could still be Covid and seems likely (in my non medical opinion) if you’ve lost your sense of taste. Hope you feel better soon!

I have it now - haven’t been able to smell or taste for 17 days (yes I’m counting, I’m desperate for a tasty meal!). I had the same symptoms you describe, although I am now on antibiotics for sinusitis. Numerous negative tests for Covid.

Yes but I did get taste back after flu, it took a few weeks though
