And if so could I fit a 15 high reusable coffee cup under it. I’m trying to buy one as a gift but it looks like maybe it only takes small mugs?

Remove the drip tray and it takes the larger mugs - I do this all the time with mine

MagpieStars · 16/12/2024 22:54

Yep exactly that
Big cups only with mine (drop tray removed a long time ago) 🤩

Thank you! That’s really helpful

hmm hang on I’ve just realised it uses a different style of pods. Does that mean you have to buy branded ones? It’s a gift for a student who is likely to want to buy Aldi/Lidl pods at times

Yes that machine only takes the Nespresso pods not the other brands.

Resilienceisimportant · 16/12/2024 23:45

No! Got rid of the nespresso due to the pods and alll the rubbish. Get a bean grinder kind - you can get some around the same price. Single use plastic like this is just irresponsible..

twobluehorses · 16/12/2024 23:49

As I understand it the pods are recyclable though?

Vertuo is the name of the new style pods that you can only buy from nespresso. If you want to use the generic pods you need one that works with the original pods.

Yes they are.

It only uses Nespresso pods, they have a bar code on them which the machine reads. I'm not sure anyone else makes the same shape of pod.

You can buy stickers on amazon to reuse the pods. Cut open the used foil on top, wash and fill with coffee of your choice. Stick on a new lid and off you go.

I also understand that Starbucks has a license to produce/fill Vertuo pods. They come in around 30p instead of 70-80p a pod. My DH has been doing some research on getting a Vertuo machine recently so all this info is second hand but I hope it's useful!

That's interesting about the stickers to refill. I thought the bar code meant it couldn't be used twice.

Anyway, I'm not that keen on Nespresso anymore, I know it's convenient but I find their coffee very bitter.

That's what's good about the stickers, you can fill the pods with any ground coffee you like, so you're not tied to Nespresso any more. All you need is one original box of pods and they can be reused many times.

What is the benefit of getting a vertuo machine rather than a standard machine? As someone who knows nothing about coffee machines it looks like they’ve just changed the pods to tie people in

I've just got one and really like it, I've had many coffee machines before but I like this one best by far.

The only thing that is a bit annoying is the pods but to be honest I just got a load off their website and got like 50 for £30 and they were limited ones which are more expensive.

Just to hijack slightly, but is the drip tray just basically useless? It doesn't clip on or anything? Like there's a little lip but it's hardly attached, or is something wrong with mine?
