She loves "Freezy Peas" and she definitely prefers them to cooked.. I don't think it does any harm, does it?

Mine eats frozen sweetcorn, she's fine

flightless55 · 16/12/2024 20:19

Not at all - you can eat raw peas

Course it's fine. Ducks love them too but they don't get a look in when my toddler is involved...

DS7 loves them. Doesn't seem to have done him any harm.

I didn't think you were meant to eat raw frozen peas......risk of some sort of illness......I'm sure I read this but can't for the life of me remember where......

Listeria. There have been outbreaks in the past and people have died. Whilst you can definitely eat home grown peas raw from the garden you should never eat the frozen ones without cooking.

samarrange · 16/12/2024 20:34

As with many questions on here, the risks are minimal but not exactly zero. So it depends on which extremely rare events you want to worry about, versus your DD enjoying herself a bit with her food.

The food safety people have to say "Always cook everything to death and serve it piping hot", and for stuff like raw chicken they are right, but the chances of a child getting listeria from frozen peas are very small indeed.

AllYearsAround · 16/12/2024 20:34

I think there is a risk of listeria or ecoli. The packet usually has a warning on it not to be eaten raw.

Wasn't there an outbreak quite recently linked to frozen veg?
