Thats it really it i hate wrapping.

Loose the pen down the side of the sofa. Loose the end of the tape , Loose the scissors. Forget who's i just wrapped before it's labeled. Question if I have been fair . Door bell rings. Dogs jump all over the place. Everything gos flying. Loose everything all over again.

Gift bags then

Got a pack of cheap ones in Ikea cos I fucking hate it too. Father Christmas brings presents in a pillowcase at my house and how I love him for doing so 😂

DizzyDandilion · 14/12/2024 16:18

At least you are at the wrapping stage! Christmas 🎄 presents not bought yet and won't be for a while...

Huffleruff · 14/12/2024 16:18

Sounds like a haiku!

I get it.

I've learned not to bother. Everyone gets a giant gift bag each now. The kids actually like it because they get to the toys faster. We're all much happier and less stressed.

Behindthethymes · 14/12/2024 16:20

Trying to do it in the living room is a mistake. You need to be standing up for the sake of your back - kitchen counter or use an ironing board.

SleepingisanArt · 14/12/2024 16:20

I love wrapping! In my first job after uni I spent the whole of December gift wrapping for customers! The trickier the shape the better I like it..... Am quite sad that now everyone is grown up I don't have much to wrap 😭 Though last year I did help a friend with her wrapping too

DarkForces · 14/12/2024 16:23

I use wrapping bags! Just tie and reuse

I love wrapping! But it does help if you're organised first.

I couldn't do it standing up - I do it sitting at the kitchen table. Use decent wrapping paper that's not going to disintegrate as soon as you look at it. Don't use that awful plastic foil wrapping paper. Get your scissors, tape, ribbon, labels and decorative bits (if using) ready first. Get all your presents ready to wrap. Make a list of who's getting what, and make sure that you label each present as you go. Easy peasy!

It doesn't have to be fancy unless you want it to be. I bought up loads of little decorative bits at the supermarket in the January sales a couple of years ago, for about 15p a packet, so I have plenty of glittery stars and wooden reindeer etc. to jazz things up a bit. In fact I have so much that when we looked through my stash a couple of days ago my DH said we wouldn't need to buy any more in our lifetimes. Given that he is 70 and I am 64 that is probably true.....

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm using a mix of cheap paper and better paper. And tape .the wrapping its self is very slap dash. And the labeles are bits of cut up paper.

I quite enjoy it. You HAVE to have a decent tape dispenser, that makes things easier. I wrap at the table. Adult children and husband all get a different colour theme so I can keep on top of it all and wrap on different days if needed. All other extended family get wrapped in last years coloured themed papers.

Ihateslugs · 14/12/2024 17:17

I’m another one who sits at a table with everything I need close at hand. My dining table is in an extension off the lounge so I put something on the tv like a quiz, talk show or music to listen to. I have to start early this year as I’m hosting a family party on the 22nd to swap presents with those people we are not seeing on Christmas Day. A tape dispenser is essential and I’m thinking of replacing mine next year as my current one is a very old heavy office one which was being thrown out as sand was leaking from it! It is not cutting very well which slows me down! I tend to wrap for an hour or so over several days so I don’t get bored!

ObliviousCoalmine · 14/12/2024 17:53

The only thing that makes it tolerable is using one of the old school weighted sellotape dispensers for one handed sellotape procurement.

No dispenser, no wrapping.

Crunchymum · 14/12/2024 17:58

Ironing board has been a game changer. I wrapped for hours yesterday (and whilst it still wasn't exactly fun it was bearable!)

Thanks. I'm ok but busy week ahead and have simply let things runaway from me!
July!! Ha, ha! That would never happen with me!

lovenaturelovelife · 14/12/2024 18:03

i brought different color wrapping paper so that i dont have to label them. They will be told on the day which color wrapping paper belongs to them.

Arraminta · 14/12/2024 18:10

You need to up your game to make it pleasurable.

So, proper old-school, classroom heavy tape dispenser (mine is the size & weight of a small car).

Real quality wrapping paper, that's thick and folds in a nice, sharp crease.

Branded, proper Sellotape.

Sharp, craft scissors (sharp enough to slice paper, not just cut).

Quality, adhesive labels (so no tying or tangling).

Yards & yards of real ribbon.

Lobstercrisps · 14/12/2024 18:13

I do mine on the kitchen table.
Get DC1 presents plus stocking presents. Wrap all. Check that they fit in stocking. Put in suitcase.

DC2 do the same.

Neices and nephews next.

Then DH.

Done in and hour.

The idea of wrapping sitting down makes my back scream in pain. And I'm really fit!

TheChosenTwo · 14/12/2024 18:26

I like wrapping, find it to be a relaxing and immediate high reward return on the effort.
I have a lot to buy for but haven’t actually finished yet.
My tried and tested technique is to wrap on the floor, weighted sellotape dispenser and everything in arms reach. Fortunately my arms are very long 😂
I’ve heard so many people recommend the ironing board method but all I envisage is rolls of wrapping paper rolling off and me constantly up and down retrieving things that have fallen off. And aren’t they just a bit narrow? Plus where do you have all the things waiting to be wrapped?
Floor for me.

I don't even have an ironing board 😅 maybe I will buy a tape dispenser next year.

I just use the same paper till I run out . Because if I ran out of the themed for ds . I would then have to get more. Get why it's done though.

I used to do the cut up bits of paper for labels. Last year, I discovered you can buy a roll of stick on, Christmas labels (like stickers), for about £1.50 for 50. Changed my life it did.

packitinagain · 14/12/2024 19:06

I hate wrapping with every fibre of my being

Least I'm not the only one 🤣. My wrapping is awful as long as it's covered. That's as good as it gets.
