Best rat traps?

Preferably snap, as I wouldn't want to have to deal with a live caught rat.

Oh, and preferably covered in some way (hens & dogs to consider) although one area doesn't have pet access so uncovered would be fine.

I bought Rat traps from Toolstation & put inside a piece of drain pipe , it worked fine.

A really good hunting cat. I don't know how you find them but I have one and his presence and a few killings have got rid of the rats. Might not be much help but I thought I'd say it anyway.

We've always been advised to poison them. Use bait boxes to keep it away from other animals.

But actually the only way we have stopped them is by successfully (touch wood) blocking access. They were coming up the drainpipes from the drains.

I'd seen those Amazon ones, thanks.

Didn't think of putting in drainpipe - duh! Thanks.

I've used poison in the past, but don't like the idea of it getting into the food chain.

It's outside area, blocking up isn't possible as they are just digging under the fences.

Next door is an unoccupied and semi derelict plot, plus we back on to fields so they are always going to be around.
It just seems to be a lot worse than ever atm and there are several runs under the fence to the unoccupied house.
I've got several trough-tubs of lily bulbs that I've put in a homemade cold frame to overwinter and noticed rat runs through the tubs which I've never had before.
Obviously, having hens doesn't help, but the rats are from next door not from the hen area.

Oh, and I'm not a cat fan.
