....and thought blimey I know this person or story.
Some of the threads are so specific it must happen.

Anyone got any experience?

Yes but it wasn't anything awful, just something on the Litter Tray and I'd seen almost the exact same post in a local FB group. Really not common set of circumstances.

Other than that Ive never spotted anything but I'm sure it must happen.

dontcryformeargentina · 13/12/2024 18:45

Yes. I knew the person from specific circumstances described here. They had no idea I read their thread. I'm glad they don't know that I know, as this person was subjected to a horrible pile on by other mumsnetters..

MaryJosephandCherylnotJesus · 13/12/2024 18:45

No but whenever I read a very detailed thread I think that surely someone is reading this and thinking 'oh that's Jane down the road' or 'ahhh, so SIL is slagging me off on MN now' etc 😂

UndeniablyGenX · 13/12/2024 18:48

The other way round - someone I know slightly at work told me a very specific anecdote, which I remembered reading as a thread on here. It would be a huge coincidence if the same thing had happened to two people. I didn't go looking for the thread afterwards to identify her username.

Jostuki · 13/12/2024 18:50

Three people! One from their user name which is the same as their eBay user name, one I recognised from her knowledge of candles and she confirmed it was her and another one I recognised from comments made in the threads about making crochet squares for blankets dow the bereaved.

MichaelBurnhamFan · 13/12/2024 18:54

I spotted a family member. They then told me the same thing they’d posted about and I said “do you have an MN thread?”

They said “yes, is your username X?” And it turned out they’d spotted me ages before.

KnopkaPixie · 13/12/2024 18:55

I'm sure that some of the threads on the "Property" boards which attach a Rightmove listing must be terribly outing.

Hopefully they don't include other details like:

"Oh dear and we're absolutely desperate to sell this horrible house as well since we're thousands and thousands in debt due to soon to be ex husband's porn addiction and Only Fans use. The drug dealers call every night because of DS, I'm using the address as part of a fake money laundering scam and the patio might start breaking up soon because we dug it rather hurriedly in the night after MIL's sudden death. Should I declutter and..."

WhatNoRaisins · 13/12/2024 18:55

Never. I think there are far far more people who get threads pulled for being identifying when they really aren't that actual recognisable posts.

I had similar, but not cat related. I messaged her to let her know she may have accidentally "outed" herself. We became FB friends. If you're still here and recognise yourself, hi!

Althenameshavegone · 13/12/2024 18:58

Yep, a post about a couple I know by one of their relatives complaining about their grabby behaviour, I felt quite sorry for her as I’ve also been on the receiving end of their CFery.

Msmoonpie · 13/12/2024 19:01

I think I spotted a colleague on here once. Describing her holiday was similar to a post.

I didn’t say anything.

changedusernameforthis1 · 13/12/2024 19:03

Yes, I came across one of DW's posts a few months ago. It wasn't just that she'd posted about not being sure that her pregnancy test was positive or just an indent line the same day we'd stared at our stick and gone "uhm" but it was also that the photo of said test was very clearly on our table with her wedding ring next to it for the camera to focus 😂

KurtCobainLover · 13/12/2024 19:06

I’ve recognised someone before after they’ve told me something which they later posted on here.

ImJustFineTYVM · 13/12/2024 19:07

Yes, my sister's stepdaughter is on here. Took me a while but it was a long thread and there were comments about my sister and other people I of course know. I have never mentioned it to anyone. Learned far too much and after a glass of wine I'm ashamed to say I clicked on the user name and had a snoop through some other threads.

I agreed with a lot of what she wrote about my sister by the way.
