Hip problem - causing neck/upper back pain?

I've got hip arthritis. It's steadily getting worse. Hopefully I can get it replaced eventually.

Last 2 weeks I've developed new weird body symptoms that feel they're caused by my hip being wrong.

If I go for a walk the worse all the problems/pains get. The longer I walk the worse they all get.

Here's my list of pains

  • Buttock & lower back & hip pain
  • Weird ache up back of neck (bad hip side)
  • Pressing sensation upper back
  • Tingling sensations around bra strap / side of shoulder blade
  • Arm on bad hip side feels like is on wrong
  • Occasional shoulder pain

Has anyone experienced anything like this with a hip problem?

No, I have had full hip replacement, but the pain I felt beforehand was nothing like the pains/aches you mention. It was more sharp pain in the groin area.
If you use a walking stick that could perhaps explain the shoulder pain, but that would be on the opposite side to the problem hip.

Maybe speak to the Dr/consultant about your various pains.

Thanks for posting. I've found some posts on a facebook group where a couple of people had neck and other upper back issues that were resolved with hip replacement, but two people is not that many so thought I'd see if I can find any on MN with a similar experience.

It could also be that I have a neck/upper back problem that is exacerbated by my hip causing gait changes.

It could indeed be that, when you have an injury or a joint that is giving trouble, the way you move and walk is definitely altered, so you could be putting pressure in unconnected areas.

Arm on bad hip side feels like is on wrong

Is a bit worrying though.
