Yet another phone call

9 replies

Stopcallingme7 · 13/12/2024 11:54

I answered my phone today to a polite sounding lady who told me they have my details from several years ago so I cut in asking what the call was about. She said miss sold car finance. I just replied saying this did not apply to me and ended the call

Around 22 years ago I bought a car on a finance arrangement and that was that. All done and dusted with no problems.

Anyone know what she was likely to be trying to do? Just another sales pitch?

Scam call probably. Don’t overthink it.

I've never owned a car in my life and I've had 2 of these calls since the recent Martin Lewis show.

Just block them, they're solicitors trying to drum up business just like when people were claiming back PPI.

Did you buy a car, van or motorbike on PCP or Hire Purchase (not leasing) before 28 January 2021? If so, you could be due £1,000s back. In January 2024, the regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), launched a major investigation into hidden, unfair car finance commission. This could lead to billions of pounds of overcharged interest paid back to millions of people.

If you've got any chance of a reclaim, you can do it yourself anyway, just like I did with PPI.

probably just a scam call, I’ve had them for years but only passed my test and bought a car in the last year.

Just don't answer the calls?

Stopcallingme7 · 13/12/2024 12:00

Thanks for your replies. As I suspected and I tend to not answer or listen to what they say then end the call. 🙄

There is a brewing scandal at the moment, around car financing deals being mis sold much like credit card / personal loan insurance was a few years ago. I know because my husband is looking into it around a financing deal he had. This means that there are also companies springing up, offering to get you the compensation/refund you will be due. They are scam only in the sense that it's a really easy process to do yourself and they will take a cut of any money you're due. It might be worth doing a bit of investigation about your finance deal and whether it is one of the ones now under review, as the amount of compensation can be substantial. I received around 5k back for insurance on a personal loan that was miss sold with very little effort on my part.

@Puppylucky

Thanks for that. I think I still have the paperwork from all those years ago. Will have a look

If you have had finance that meets the criteria, you don't need one of these callers to help you. Just have a look at the MSE link above.

The information you'll need to supply will be the same either way and if you do qualify, you'll get all the money that you're entitled to back, with no-one taking 30-40% as commission. That's what these calls are about.
