Local Meet up’s no longer a thing ?

Going back ten years or more, quite a few people would meet up in a bar for a daytime good chat & get together & Christmas gatherings. Having moved across the country, nothing ever appears on the local site & I never see talk of meet ups

OP posts:

Do you mean the website Meetup?
I belong to a group that meets once a month and we are still going strong.
Someone has to organise it.
If you want it - organise it.

So helpful. No wonder people don’t bother

Do you mean Mumsnet Local meet-ups? Yeah I think they died a death as the site grew bigger and more impersonal. Shame as I made some good friends through local meet-ups, but the site was very different back then.

It's very different here now, though.

Back in the day trolls were relentless but few and journalists/content gatherers were more selective.

Now the made-up threads on here are many and there are more false narratives, so people are wary. It's not so jolly. Sadly.

@Donttellempike what do you mean?
Someone DOES have to be the organiser or else how do these things happen?
(also I assumed the OP meant events on Meetup.com not Mumsnet meet ups which I didn't know was a thing)
