I'm not sure why I never watched this back in 2007, but have finally started watching this evening!
Up to the one where they just got married.

Smithy is a horrible character but I love, love, love Nessa!

The rap Smithy and Rudie do from Estelle’s American Boy is just a joy.

In fact the scenes with Smithy’s mum and at his home are funny, but also a bit poignant and show how well Smithy and his sister have done despite pretty poor parenting.

They are all very everyday people. I have known all these characters in my life, one way or another. It brings to mind an Alan Bennett in how well observed the people are.

It’s almost the only thing that dh and I (very different tv/film tastes) can sit and laugh through together

Absolutely love it actually put the original Xmas episode on tonight so get me in the Xmas spirit. Love Ness, and Byrn ! I hope we have a home like mick and Pam's for our adult kids one day it's just so fun.

Gavin and Stacey has some of the best quotes. DH is Welsh and I'm forever calling him a "leek munching sheep shagger" a' la Pam.

Every Christmas we'll get a card through the door on Christmas Eve and I always do Pam's rant "what's the point of sending cards that arrive on Christmas Eve?..."
I don't send mine on the 1st November though .

I was late to watching it. Not sure why I didn't watch originally

But I saw the Xmas special first then went to watch s1 after and got to know the characters

Now I've seen countless times - like sex in the city - and can watch and rewatch and not be bored of it

I refreshed my memory (again) 😂😂 of all of it few weeks ago - ready for Xmas day

I didn’t clock it was Matthew Baynton until rewatching it this month! How, I have no idea.

You should definitely watch it. I missed it first time around and only watched it a few years ago 'cos my adult nephew was raving about it. It's brilliant and hasn't dated at all.

Every time we get a card with a single name in it (obviously less and less often) we chorus ‘STEPBROTHER JOHN’.

Deano aka Mathew prob wasn't that famous in 2007

Now he's well known due to ghosts and horrible histories so when rewatching you spot him

Just watched this last night - hilarious! I remember all that stuff about alternative Turkey cooking methods and worry was real with Mick!
Plus this may be going against the grain but I wants Ness to marry Dave😬 Still not warming to Smithy!

Currently rewatching with teen DD (her 1st time) ahead of the finale. We've just got the 2019 Xmas special to go. Love it!

Nessa's backstory is so funny. I bet they'll add another element in the new episode. My personal favourite is the reference to her relationship with the Al Fayed boy in the 90s and he just disappeared suddenly (can't remember the phrasing) or that she was in the original line up for All Saints but she fell out with Shaznay. I think she was in Hearsay too. All very dated references now but so funny.

It's amazing how they can name shame all the people who nessa has had 😂

I’m quite envious of you watching it for the first time OP. I always watch it at least once a year and it’s my go to comfort telly when I’m feeling ill. Some great characters love Doris especially. Really looking forward to the Christmas special.

I didn’t see Steffan Rhodri / Pam Ferris in the trailer, so I assume no Dave Coaches nor Smithy’s Mum on Christmas Day.
