Do you wash everything from vinted

Some of the things I buy are clearly freshly washed and ironed.

Do you re wash - I'm considering not!

I've received things so dirty and they were so awful they went in the bin

Then things that are clean but been stored so I wash those.

I wash them because often they’ve been stored for ages even if they’re clean

Cherrysoup · 12/12/2024 19:50

Only if they stink. I do wish sellers would stop spraying on whatever the hell they use, a jumper I got last week smelt of the most appalling air freshener. Once washed, it’s fab.

Gardendiary · 12/12/2024 19:52

On a casé by case basis really. I used to do everything but I’ve had some stuff that was so clearly fresh it seemed pointless and other stuff that I’ve had to wash and air out before the smell would go.

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/12/2024 19:52

Yes. Everything absolutely stinks of Bold which I can’t stand. I wash new stuff before anyone wears it too.

mathanxiety · 12/12/2024 19:52

I don't buy from Vinted but I do buy from thrift shops, and I wash everything. I'd wash everything from Vinted too, or invest in a black light.

pestothepenguin · 12/12/2024 19:56

Thrift shops or charity shops do have the dreaded "charity shops smell"

It's gross

Im starting to think the same

I wash everything, though just on a quick 20 minute cycle if it just smells of perfume.

I don't fancy scabies or moths so would rather give them a quick swoosh and some heat from the tumble drier.

Oaoejvr · 12/12/2024 20:09

Yes although not coats unless they’re for my kids.

LostittoBostik · 12/12/2024 20:10

Yes. But we've previously had bedbugs in the past and it might have been due to a Vinted item (never worked out the cause). I practically disinfect anything and anyone that comes across the threshold now.

BrendaSmall · 12/12/2024 20:12

I’ve only ever bought from vinted 4 times and it all went in the bin, the items were like dish rags!
Never used it since!

This is why I ask!! A reason I hadn't considered!

What's a black light?
I freeze anything second hand for a week before washing, major fear of bedbugs.

Decafflatteplease · 12/12/2024 20:15

We buy everything apart from pants and socks secondhand and it all goes through the washer with (cloth) nappy powder (antibacterial)

Superworm24 · 12/12/2024 20:26

Yes and I normally throw a bit of nappisan in with it. If it smells freshly washed then I'd still put it in on a 15 min wash. I find some of the awful scented bead wash things bring me out in a rash.

shiverm · 12/12/2024 20:33

Eeeek hadn't considered vinted a source of bedbugs. Going to freeze everything from now on (though have bought minimal items) Goodness that's scared me

bohnerific69 · 12/12/2024 20:39

I wash everything because I use non bio and would prefer it's been freshly washed with that instead of whatever the seller may have used.

Thelnebriati · 12/12/2024 20:43

The air freshener smell might be the new Ariel laundry liquid, its awful. I wash everything because we've all got eczema and are allergic to some laundry products.
I once bought a dressing gown that stank of vomit!

babyproblems · 12/12/2024 20:43

Yes. Fleas. Bedbugs. Definitely wash even if you have the impression it’s clean. You do not want a bedbug infestation for the sake of a £7 jumper from Vinted. There was a brilliant guardian article recently about there being a huge rise in parasites and skin issues because of people reusing textile items and not washing them thoroughly. It recommended washing things at 40 at minimum but better yet 60 before wearing it or storing it with other textile items. I have worked in the used textile trade and I’d have regular jabs at the GP and wash anything I bought home very thoroughly.

Supersimkin7 · 12/12/2024 20:51

Could you link to that piece?

Normallynumb · 12/12/2024 23:00

Yes, I buy lots from Vinted and always wash everything before wear.
Even if it smells clean, it's not " my" clean.
