We have been searching for the holy grail - affordable tasty baked beans, and I think I've finally found them. Asda own brand. What other affordable tasty treats are in the own brand and smart price aisle from any supermarket that you choose over the premium version?

Pretty much all supermarkets do a frozen apple strudel for less than £2. It's always delicious and satisfying. For added low cost comfort, whisk up a packet of instant custard.

The cheaper the bourbon biscuit the better for me!

Oh yes. I used to buy them from Superdrug when I was a student.

@JoyDreamer86 - It was bread, special offer crumpets, pastrami, lurpak, special offer cat food, chocolate for Christmas, one roll of Christmas wrap and some pale ale my DS likes. So not completely general groceries. But the pale ale was only £14. And I got money off because of the card. It's criminal.

Aldi value grated cheddar

Aldi’s hash browns - the oval shaped ones that come in a cardboard box and are clearly meant to be reminiscent of McDonald’s hash browns.

They have to be carefully rationed to a Sunday morning breakfast treat as they are insanely addictive.

They're so good! I did them with avocado, fried eggs, halloumi and chilli crunch oil the other day
