This question is a bit how long is a piece of string sorry

What is the city of London like on the 23rd of December?

We've been invited to something in the Bank/St Pauls area, but it would involve a bit of a trek. I think we would drive to our friends and get the train from there. I'm not sure how reliable the tubes and trains are likely to be for us to get back out to the car and then back in time for our evening event without a mega rush

Have asked Google, but some people say it's really busy and some people say it's really quiet.

Just be aware there are possibly train strikes around London on the 23rd, not sure which lines are affected.

LIZS · 11/12/2024 18:54

Where will you park? I think it will be pretty quiet tbh

Radishknot · 11/12/2024 18:56

Normally the actual city is quiet around Xmas but transport may be an issue.

RoundandSad · 11/12/2024 18:59

We'd have to park at a friends place in the outskirts not trying to park in centra London

I didn't think that was possible anyway it must be incredibly expensive and also the congestion charge

they have a choice of going in by a train or a tube from theirs but I bet all of that will be crowded

Thanks for the heads up re train strike
i think it's a tight squeeze for timing anyway so I'll tell DP it's going to be a no

its a nice venue in London apparently but we have to be back and dressed up in the evening and if a train strike means more traffic it sounds like too much

thanks for the info

Shopping areas will be really busy and not very fun I expect, but around the actual "City" (do you mean around Bank/Cannon Street?) I don't think it will be that busy.

MakingPlans2025 · 11/12/2024 19:17

I think the only strikes that have been announced so far are avanti west coast which won't affect the tube

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/12/2024 19:18

You'll be fine

amispeakingintongues · 11/12/2024 19:24

Tube will be absolutely fine getting you to the party. As long as you can tube it from your friends house then go for it. Your issue is getting home after the night out as the tube isn't 24/7 on a monday.

FelixtheAardvark · 11/12/2024 19:49

Monday before Xmas the City of London will be as quiet as a mouse.

Balletdreamer · 11/12/2024 19:56

The city is usually quiet outside full on commute hours (7am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm) it’s dead on a Friday night in summer, I doubt it will be busy on the 23rd
