Is this the '12 month regression' or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Did your DC experience what they call the '12 month regression'?

My DD started sleeping through the night at around 9 months and all of a sudden just before she turned 12 months, she started waking more frequently. Currently dealing with daily 5am starts. Initially she was teething so I put it down to that and although she is still teething the teeth have cut through so the worst of it is over but she still wakes up at 5am everyday.

She goes down for bed between 6-8pm depending on how tired she is. Her naps vary sometimes she'll have 1, 2 hour nap and other times she'll have two 1 hour naps. Again, it's based on her cues.

Is this a regression or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Yes I remember this, and again at 2 years! (Sorry!)

I think I'd get her down earlier rather than later, in case over-tiredness might be playing a role and it *might be worth being more routine about daytime naps also. My dc1 went to one 2h nap after one year, while dc2 continued to have two decent naps before moving to one long one a few months later.

@mikado1 routines don't really work for my DD as she's quite sensitive and anything that upsets her she'll forget about any routine whatsoever and either sleep a lot more or not sleep for hours. That's why I follow sleep cues as I'll go with how she's feeling that day. I've tried routines but it never goes to plan so I've given up!

Might explore the over tiredness and see if I can do something about that. My initial thought was is she sleeping too much?

Thanks for your help x

No, she's not sleeping too much I'd say. Best of luck.
