Hi wondering if someone can tell me if I can take Nytol one a night with codeine ? Im prescribed and take codeine daily due to chronic back pain, have done for years, due to some life stresses I've been struggling to sleep so thought I'd try Nytol, can I actually take them together safely though ? I've checked the drug interactions website and it says moderate interaction, I have anxiety so worrying myself about taking them together
Thanks

Oh also just remembered I take 20mg of amitriptyline every night too, I'm guessing that one isn't meant to be mixed with Nytol

I don't know about interactions but codeine on its own is a prescription drug that has a strong sedative effective. (small doses are available over the counter in some products like nurofen plus)

Nytol is over the counter depending on the specific nytol product either an over the counter antihystamine or herbal ingredients. I've never found either effective at all tbh.

If codeine doesn't make you sleepy, I think you are totally wasting your money with Nytol.

I would speak to your GP and explain the situation. if you have got into a habit and need to break it, actual sleeping tablets can break a cycle.

In my limited personal experience, the amytrip and codeine would send most people to sleep.

I would have thought a 'moderate interaction' means you shouldn't add nytol to your roster. Go back to your GP - better than messing around with these things yourself.

I cross posted with you @quickquestionplz so hadn't seen your post about 20mg of amitriptyline at the time I posted.

You are totally wasting your time with Nytol. It will be like pissing in the wind.

Definitely speak to your doctor.

both amitriptyline and codeine depress the central nervous system
so does nytol
if youre already on two other cns depressants its not advised to add a third into the mix regardless of it being an otc medication
call your chemist and ask to speak to the pharmacist they will be able to advise you
alternatively speak to your GP to get the most appropriate medical advice

Okay thank you all

Herbal nytol tablets will do nothing. The liquid really helps though.
