Thanks to the Simpsons, cromulent.

I haven't seen the Simpson's or heard that word, but just looked it up.

"Acceptable or adequate"

So you could say "that will be cromulent, thank you" ?

Fabulous.

I've always found 'pudding' to be a very satisfying word.
Also 'bastard' when said with a bit of oomph.

DebbieTheCat · 11/12/2024 22:55

I'm very fond of flibbertigibbet.
It reminds me of The Sound of Music.

Strumpet and salubrious - not together!🤣

AngelontopoftheTree · 11/12/2024 23:03

Yay! Love this thread ❤️

My favourite word is Sphincter - just for the way it "feels" in your mouth.

I also love Scurryfunge, which I learned from Susie Dent. To run around quickly tidying up before a visitor arrives (especially an unexpected visitor - not that any one on MN would ever do that 😉)

Skedaddle! Often called out to my kids or the children I work with when they are being pests!

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 11/12/2024 23:59

Great thread! 😊I also love 'outwith' and...

skelf - splinter of wood under the skin
chook(ie) - used in the expression, 'Did I chook! and 'That'll be chookie!' although wee chookie birdie also makes me happy.
coorie (in) - cuddle in or squeeze up and make room.

Indulgent. "That's so indulgent." "Yes it is!"

Blow dry - that feeling at the hairdressers when you've been pampered and now you're almost done and getting your hair styled. Amazing

Book - reading a good book!

I'd forgotten one if my favourites. Verisimilitude. I use the quote below wherever possible 🤣.
Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.
With thanks to Mr Gilbert.

Sartorial just means "relating to clothes", so someone who dresses well has lovely sartorial taste.

A pastiche is an imitation of a work of art/drama/music - usually intended as a homage rather than for comical/ironic purposes. So it's a bit like the opposite of a parody.

Loving this thread!

Edited

Thanks :-) The meaning of sartorial surprised me. Here’s me been thinking it’s referring to something highfaluting and intellectual all these years…

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 12/12/2024 07:36

Have we had 'petrichor' yet?

Many years ago, there was an MNer called Scurryfunge.
