Nectar Points Stolen

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 09/12/2024 21:02

I’ve just checked my account and I’ve ‘lost’ 7,000 nectar points. They took 500 in Highgate and then 6,000 in Rhyl and another 500. Neither of which myself and dh has been to.
Both dh and I have checked and we still have our cards. There must be some serious loophole in security if someone can nick points from a loyalty card like this.
I’m going to call them tomorrow and have words either them. My brother says his friend had this too. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has lost points like this.

I've just had my points nicked - will call Sains tomorrow
I'd left them unlocked as sometimes my teens will use them if short on cash for lunch etc

BitOutOfPractice · 26/02/2025 22:43

its happened to me twice. I just rang and they reinstated and gave a bonus for the hassle.

Could your teens log into the app as you so they can unlock / lock if they needed the points?

Hi

I just found that there's a setting in NECTAR accounts called LOCK SPENDING.

This just happened to me too. The helpline on 0344 8110811 were really helpful, refunded the lost 20000 points and transferred everything over onto a new card number, with a replacement card on it's way to me.
Advised me to log out and in again and the new number shows up on my account and app and all my missing points are back too.
Main reason I'm posting is to say that when I was in my account on the laptop rather than on the phone app I noticed that there is a setting where you can Lock Spending.
So I have turned that on now and hopefully it will stop the fraudsters (who must just try loads of numbers till they find one that works...) being able to spend my hard earned points before I've saved up for my new tv from argos.
Oh, and I changed my password too - just in case !

Yes there's a setting on Android phones to block spending too, but my friend with an iPhone couldn't find it, not sure if that's because there isn't one or if she just couldn't find it. My points were refunded eventually, the Nectar reps on Twitter were trying to blame me because the points were spent a few miles from where I live, even though I'd never been to that particular area and don't know the other 10 million or so people in London.... It was the online chat people who sorted it eventually. Sainsburys could easily have looked into who stole my points, there are cameras on each self service checkout, but they would not investigate, I wouldn't be surprised if it's an inside job.

I'm still waiting for sainsbury to contact me from mid - January regarding a complaint which involved nectar. They are clearly very separate entities. Very separate. And it makes their partnership / corporate relationship look utterly incompetent. When I get a moment I will be following up.

I have an iPhone and it's on there. She needs to update the app for it to show. It's on the main screen.

This is still happening in 2025! Beware! I just had an email from Nectar to say 500 points had been spent in Whitechapel yesterday. I was actually out of the country - and my card was at home (nowhere near London!!). I would have been unaware if I hadn’t received the email and now there seems to be the facility to block spending on the account (I have). Having contacted Nectar, they’re refunding the points and issuing a new card. This is really worrying and should probably be more widely known about. It’s made me think about all the other cards/accounts where I have valuable points accumulated: Tesco, Boots, Topcashback, Vinted etc. I’m going to transfer the money to my bank or spend the points asap!!

Aargh, I've had a load stolen. Trying to sort now but wasn't aware of the Lock feature but it's not even working on my phone atm.

Sorry about the theft. Have you tried updating the app, as the feature may not work until it's updated?

They're giving us back the points and sending new cards so will update/reinstall once we get the new cards 🙂

hottoday22 · 23/06/2025 23:49

i’ve Just had £65 worth of points stolen! So this issue is still ongoing it seems.

I got an email to say thank you for redeeming your points. I assumed it was a scam, but the email was from nectar.com and contained the last few digits of my nectar card, so I checked the nectar app and it shows ALL of my points had been spent in one go, in London Nine Elms. Nowhere near me.

I’ll contact them in the morning , and I’ve now turned on the ‘lock spend’ function but I didn’t know that existed until I read this thread. Shame!

SwedishEdith · 24/06/2025 11:58

I still can't get back into my nectar account after this. My partner set it up originally and his card is all fixed. The online chat wouldn't deal with me for that reason. My partner requested a new card for me and that took weeks to come through. But I still can't use the app as I go around in this loop with nectar saying they don't recognise my email address despite using it to tell me I'd redeemed my points. I've had to use a screenshot of my partner's card to use to gain points. A complete ballache.

Jijithecat · 24/06/2025 14:47

Have you tried putting in your partner's email address @swedishedith?
I had a similar problem with the card registered in my DH's name. I thought the new account had been set up with my email address, but it was still linked to his.

Oo, thank you. Will try 🙂
