To be happy and unharmful.

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 09/12/2024 08:55

No meaning, just reproductive genetic imperative, like animals
Except humans have MiLs, blended families and a me, me, me attitude
So less survival of species, more survival of artificial familial constructs and arseholes

ErrolTheDragon · 09/12/2024 09:05

Maybe it's mostly being a small step in genetic inheritance/evolution. That 'meaning' applies to all life. For human life we can also be a part of cultural inheritance and development.

Humans can add meaning by so far as we're able by things like trying to increase rather than decrease the sum of human happiness, trying to leave the world in a better rather than worse place, and perhaps slightly increase the sum of human knowledge and/or creativity.

Well yes, between Douglas Adams and Eric Idle we're sorted.Grin

Blueberrymuffin8 · 09/12/2024 09:17

The meaning of life is to LOVE. That's it. In fact, that is all that really ever exists, so everything else is an illusion.

HardlyLikely · 09/12/2024 09:22

I like @ErrolTheDragon’s reply, but my immediate response is that this doesn’t sound like a final year dissertation project any supervisor, in any academic department, would approve.

JennyTals · 09/12/2024 09:23

What’s 42 ? Is it a movie ?

The late great genius that is Douglas Adams and HHGTTG

CraigSheppardBull · 09/12/2024 09:26

No meaning, just simply live🤐

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 09/12/2024 09:26

Well, Monty Python made a great film all about this...

But seriously, I always find it interesting when older people are interviewed and asked this question. It seems to be much easier to find meaning when you can look back on your life and see what is really important.

Ah, already been said. There isn't one, I don't need there to be one.

"Some time ago a group of hyper-intelligent pan dimensional beings decided to finally answer the great question of Life, The Universe and Everything.
To this end they built an incredibly powerful computer, Deep Thought. After the great computer programme had run (a very quick seven and a half million years) the answer was announced.
The Ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is...
(You're not going to like it...)
Is...
42
Which suggests that what you really need to know is 'What was the Question?'."

They need to get chatGPT on the case with that one.

JennyTals · 09/12/2024 09:35

Don’t the unis have tech that can check if the students have found it on chat gpt?

To know God now in this fallen, messed up, painful world and to enjoy Him, love Him and be loved by Him now while still in this imperfect place and then afterwards to know and enjoy Him forever in His glorious place of perfect peace and joy.

JennyTals · 09/12/2024 09:35

Oh I forgot about that Monty python movie

😂

I don’t think there is a meaning of life.

GutsyGal · 09/12/2024 09:43

You arrive alone.
You go alone.
The inbetween times;
Are where you love, join, create and learn,
Passing on "who you are" to others,
Leaving connections and memories
Of the love and life you lived;
The fairy dust you sprinkled
Along the way.

You’re absolutely entitled to your opinion, as am I and everyone else.

I expected to be laughed at, so thanks for not disappointing me. Have a good day.

SilenceInside · 09/12/2024 09:45

I couldn't express my reply any better than @ErrolTheDragon 's reply which exactly sums up my thoughts on this.
