How the hell do I get DS's work boots try for tomorrow

TitaniasAss · 08/12/2024 16:43

He's been working overtime today in the pissing rain all day. His work boots are soaked and he needs them for tomorrow. I don't have any newspaper and don't have a hairdryer. Apart from putting them on a radiator what can I do to get them dryer?

Stuff them with hand towels/face towels, change regularly and radiator.

WonderingWanda · 08/12/2024 16:46

Get some small towels / tea towels / and stuff esch boot to soak up as much water as possible. Change every hour. And put them in the airing cupboard or on a radiator.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/12/2024 16:52

Take out any insole or lining, stuff them with absorbent material - hand towels, flannels, kitchen paper - and turn them upside down so that gravity assists as they're near a radiator.

Stuff with tea towels. Put upside down in the warmest place you have.

TeenToTwenties · 08/12/2024 16:54

Ask your neighbours for some newspaper.

p1l1l · 08/12/2024 16:57

Repeatedly press kitchen roll into them. It should suck the worst of it out, and then put on radiator.

Do you have any silicon sachets (the ones that sometimes come in clothing sent through the post, or in covid tests? If so pop them in the boots. You could also try rice (not cooked obvs.) in the boots on a radiator, rice is quite good at absorbing moister.

avaritablevampire · 08/12/2024 17:22

Could you get him some waterproof socks for Christmas? I love mine! My walking boots get soaked, but my feet stay dry and toasty. I'd recommend 'sealskins' or 'extremities'. Not cheap but worth every penny!

Angrymum22 · 08/12/2024 17:28

If you have a cat and any cat litter, line the boots with kitchen towel and fill with cat litter ( clean of course). Alternatively an old pair of socks with cat litter and put them in the boots, may be worth trying rice if you have nothing else.
If they are not totally dry he could put his feet in plastic bags before putting on his boots, old school remedy when my wellies leaked.

Take out the lining
Loosen the laces and pull out the tongue
Stuff with kitchen towel
Put in warmest place in house

I think there’s a typo in your OP - surely
you meant to ask how DS gets his work boots dry for tomorrow? 😉

healthybychristmas · 08/12/2024 18:17

Maybe she's trying to help him out because he's knackered and has been soaking wet all day, working outdoors.

HisMajestysSecretCervix · 08/12/2024 18:28

@PoorPhaedra yeah, we must never do anything for our children once they turn about 15.

Such a boring response

You stole my thoughts... why's he not worried about this and on YouTube looking up solutions??

Maybe he doesn't give a shit?

The boys been working overtime in the pouring rain all day, I think it's fine if his mum dries his work boots for him

PauliesWalnuts · 08/12/2024 18:48

Not helpful for now but a couple of pairs of these in his Cmas stocking will help for the future - I use them after walking and they are great when you need to dry them out in a tent https://bootbananas.com/

Nip out and buy a newspaper then stick on radiator

MayorOfHuyton · 08/12/2024 19:38

I've recently bought electric shoe dryers from Amazon, you can't use them in soaking wet shoes for safety reasons, but might be a good Christmas present for your DS.

ManhattanPopcorn · 08/12/2024 19:40

A newspaper is not a hard thing to come by.

saveforthat · 08/12/2024 19:42

A spare pair of boots would be a good Christmas present. In the meantime anything absorbent inside and on a radiator as pp have suggested

GreyBlackBay · 08/12/2024 19:46

If you can put them on the radiator they're better off not being stuffed with something to allow air to circulate.

Use a towel to blot off as much as possible first. Pull out insoles. Put on hot radiator and make a tent with a towel to hold in as much heat as possible.

Maybe she wants to do something nice for her son who’s been working in the rain?

Are your children quite young?

No typo. He was at work in the pissing rain from 4am this morning then sat in a traffic jam for two hours on his way home. He's an apprentice and works bloody hard. I even made his dinner for him too ...

He could go to the corner shop and get a newspaper, or like others have said use tea towels

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 08/12/2024 20:35

Stuff them with newspaper and put on the radiator. Change the newspaper regularly. Make sure the boots are upside down drying.
