Moving to Exmouth

I’m seriously thinking about moving to Exmouth or close by. If you live in Exmouth and know the town well, would you recommend it and are there any areas you would particularly recommend moving to or to avoid? Is it a nice place to live? Many thanks.

Do you live in Devon at the moment? Why Exmouth?

Where are you moving from? Are you already in Devon, or is it a relocation?

I’ve lived in Exmouth for a long time and love it here, good rail link to Exeter but road traffic can be busy getting out of Exmouth. The beach is good lots of water sports and lots of events in and around the town, housing around the town centre and nearer the beach is mainly older properties, and living closer to the seafront pushes up prices. Newer housing is more out of town and there is still quite a lot of building going on. Lots of primary schools and just one large comprehensive secondary school in the town.

I live in Hampshire atm and have decided to relocate when I retire next year. I live near a nice coast and countryside, and Devon would offer the same. Exeter is too big for my liking and Exmouth appears to offer a good combination including social activities as I’m on my own but I don’t know Exmouth. What are your thoughts?

I'm there quite often and think it has a lot going for it. Train, small hospital, good sandy beach, town centre is a bit crap (most are these days though) but it has a small retail park plus a decent size tesco and lidl.
It's more townie than pretty seaside towns, personally I don't think that's the end of the world.

If you are thinking of moving here to retire I would say it’s a great place to live , you are close to Dartmoor, lots of other lovely places nearby including Budleigh Sallterton and Sidmouth. Exmouth has a cycle path that runs along the estuary to Topsham. Depending on what you like doing I can recommend places to look at for social activities.
