I've just seen it this evening. Took an 8 year old, 22 and 23 year old. It does drag on abit as its a long film but the story and the singing is great and some great actors.

TheMotherShipAhoy · 08/12/2024 02:06

It's looong, but even for someone who's never seen The Wizard of Oz, or know much about Wicked the musical, I really enjoyed it. It was a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed seeing Ariana Grande sending herself up and actually being funny (having found her unbearable in the US sitcoms the DC have watched her in), and Cynthia Erivo's portrayal of Elphaba. Lots of earworms.

MajorCarolDanvers · 08/12/2024 02:23

It’s amazing. I loved it.

Orchid90 · 12/12/2024 16:44

I didn’t find it that good tbh. Like I would not tell people they have to go and watch it.
I loved the picture, scenery. And the actress who plays the witch has an absolute amazing voice . The story is ok,
But it’s way too long. I think that’s the main criticism from me . Just too long . If it was a 2 h movie it would have been more than enough .
3 hours is a long time . And tbh I didn’t found the songs that catchy either .
i liked moana 2 a lot more 🤣🤣🤣🤣

MuggleMe · 12/12/2024 17:12

Another one to say I enjoyed it but not totally wowed.

SarahLHs · 12/12/2024 17:22

I absolutely loved it. I'd go and watch it again!

Doggymummar · 12/12/2024 17:25

It's a two parter isn't it? My friend refuses to go until part two is out too. I really want to see it too.

She's got a heart long wait then!

I loved it. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

Oddsquadnumber1 · 12/12/2024 17:26

I enjoyed it but already knew the musical and soundtrack. Bloody long though

MsGoodenough · 12/12/2024 17:28

I've seen the stage version and I just didn't get the love it gets. One good song and a nonsensical story

Thank you for saying this! I thought I was terminally short on brain cells because when I saw the musical the story didn't make any sense to me. Two good songs and a lot of random threads of what is trying to be a narrative but really isn't! So relieved it isn't just me because everyone else seems to love it.

LunaNorth · 12/12/2024 17:30

The costumes deserve an Oscar.
Cynthia Eviro is good, as is the bloke out of Bridgerton.
Ariana Grande reminded me of a Stepford Wife. Just zilch going on behind the eyes.
And they need to change the song to ‘Defying Brevity.’

Baublingalong · 12/12/2024 17:31

Save your money and catch it on TV, it's not good enough to warrant a cinema ticket.

modgepodge · 12/12/2024 17:38

I felt the same as I did about the stage show - ok but not as good as the hype suggests! Most musicals I’ve been to, I’ve come out singing the songs. The only song I could tell you from wicked is defying gravity, which I knew before I saw the show. The songs just aren’t catchy enough!!

also I’m a firm believer that films longer than 90 mins, 2 hours tops, should be TV series (Harry Potter writers finally agreeing with me 😂). I didn’t realise how long wicked was before I booked or I’m not sure I would have done.

Defying Brevity 😂

Seen it twice already and loved it. The guy from Bridgerton is great in it. Could watch him dance all day!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 12/12/2024 21:32

Far to long, I got bored and didn’t think it was that great. Could have been way shorter it dragged.

Webbb · 13/12/2024 14:20

Seen it twice and absolutely loved it both times.

peachgreen · 13/12/2024 14:59

I liked it but it's not life-changing. Cynthia Erivo has a spell-binding voice but the direction isn't great and the script is meh. Lots of people loved the sets but I felt they were a bit... theme park – though to be fair I think they were deliberately going for that look to pay homage to the Wizard of Oz.

I'm glad to have seen it but it certainly isn't life-changingly brilliant.

Me too! I thought it was fantastic and would see it again.

Rocknrollstar · 13/12/2024 16:37

It’s excellent and way better than the show.

KittenPause · 01/02/2025 03:08

I watched it on Amazon Prime at home

I loved it and it didn't feel too long of course because you can pop to the kitchen or loo whenever you want

I also turned the subtitles on so I wouldn't miss anything
