Cake decorators, I need some help please...

I want to make dd2 a book cake for her birthday later this month & I've bought some stencils to stencil a pattern on the "cover" & the writing (not sure what that will be yet!)

Can anyone recommend either something I can buy that's gold, that'll be suitable for stencilling on icing? Or, even better, maybe an edible gold pen that I could use?

You could buy gold sugarpaste or a gold edible pen. There are lots of lettering sets available to either cut out the letters or make an impression in the icing to fill with gold colouring. Hobbycraft carries a reasonable range, or find a cake decorating supplier.

Yes. I would make the letters in icing of a different colour. I don't think they would show up that well with edible pen. Think that might work for going round the edges etc but not the main writing. Unless the book was white I think it would fade in to the background. 👍👍👍Book cake sounds great. Good luck! 🍀

Gold icing spray! I've used it, but not for stencilling, but I'm sure it'll be fine for that if the stencil is well pressed on.

I’ve used gold edible spray before, it’s fab but goes everywhere and if you stencil you’ll need to be very careful it doesn’t smudge. I would print out the letters in icing and then spray them. Let them dry and then stick to your book. Or just get some gold sugar paste and cut out and stick on.

Ooh, I haven't got letter cutters. I'll hunt ebay for someone who does edible letters!

@Semiavintter that's a good idea, I'll try and keep it in mind for next year's cake!
