Sorry, can you dumb down for the terminally (see what I did there?Wink) stupid, what I am looking at?
A pilot flew his plane into loads of other planes taking off or circling or landing or whatever and did an amazing manoeuvre?
Sorry for being visually inept OP. This kind of thing isn't usually on my radar. Wink

I don't get it either.

mitogoshigg · 07/12/2024 12:09

You should have seen the conditions the pilots landed in last night here. People applauded once they were down!

notimagain · 07/12/2024 12:36

Looks to me like a standard go-around off 27 Left at Heathrow, performed for reasons unknown but the obvious culprit would be excessive crosswind.

Not exactly something a pilot wants to a happen but they are trained for it and I’d suspect it had been well briefed beforehand given the weather.

Not sure this is the current chart but for info there’s this, the missed approach is dotted line on the map and fits with what Flightradar depicts.

So what am I looking at mito?
Is it the sheer amount of traffic?
Can anyone explain?
It was a genuine question.
Also, if it's the sheer amount of traffic, shouldn't it be Air Traffic Control getting the Wineor have I seen Pushing Tin too many times? Grin

There have been a few go arounds on Big Jet TV this morning. And quite a few wobbly looking planes and bumpy landings. It definitely makes you appreciate the pilots' skills especially seeing the angle they are landing in the cross wind.

TIL what a go around is. Thanks notimagain.
So did it divert or will it have done another approach?
You guys that follow this, do you follow individual trajectories or just notice when they abort a landing?

Too much “Pushing Tin” I’m afraid.

It’s a team effort and ATC don’t do the wrestling with the controls😳 bit when flying an approach and deciding wether or not to continue to landin a crosswind, though they will have been working really hard handling go-arounds and any diversions this AM so I don’t want to take anything away from their efforts.

We've had four go arounds here at Gatwick in the last hour alone. Ryan Air from Dublin finally touched down after three attempts. Air Baltic didn't even attempt to land they just lined up with the runway then made a left hand turn just at the start of it.
