I'm just finishing my first cuppa, with my tablets, then off up to get dressed and make sure dd1's up!

We're off to Harrogate today for the Christmas market 🎄 so leaving bright and early.

Plan is a very steady mooch as I've injured my foot somehow & it's quite painful.

When we get home it'll be cuppa & probably bed for me 💤

What about all of you? 🙂

In the red zone but dissented out to go to Fat club...
It is very gusty but not as bad as I thought despite being in a coastal town.
Going to visit a disabled relative later when the red alert lifts. Am sorting out my Christmas decorations at the moment and cleaning the two rooms I need to decorate.
My husband is glossing upstairs as he has retired and decided that all the rooms need to be painted 🙈

lucysmam · 07/12/2024 10:03

@MissMarplesNiece yep! Link here to the tutorial I followed...I never knew it was so simple. You need a flat edged something & a paintbrush as well as the snow spray.

Good morning @lucysmam . I hope you get to Harrogate - most things here in (not) sunny Devon have been cancelled. We got the red alert through our phones yesterday evening and it's still really windy now.

I didn't wake up until 9am this morning. DH has been ill in bed most of the week so as well as missing out on all the things he usually does for me (breakfast in bed, making lunch and our evening meal on my working days, general housework) I have had to do them myself and do them for him as well. That's fair enough, of course, but he does them for me because I'm not well and he is retired, so I am completely exhausted! No laundry has been done all week so I have a massive pile of that to do... Several loads including a couple of sets of DH's bedsheets.

So - instead of getting started on that, I made DH's breakfast and took that to him, fed the cat, made and ate my own breakfast so that I could take my usual 15 pills, and I have come back to bed. I'm going to scroll through mumsnet for a bit and then I'm aiming on going back to sleep. DH and the cat have both been fed and watered, I have taken a quiche out of the freezer for lunch, I will put some washing on when I get up and then I will start decorating the living room for Christmas. We should be doing the tree today as we bought it last weekend, but I can't get it in from the garden so it probably won't get done until next weekend. One of us has to go and pick up my chorister grandson and the rest of the family after the Christmas Carol Service at the Cathedral this evening - there are 4 of them so it can only be 1 of us as we only have a 5-seater car. I'm hoping DH feels well enough to do it..... it's not until 8.45pm and that's way past my usual bedtime! I probably will end up doing it though.

Tomorrow is the performance of The Messiah by the Cathedral Choir - I'm going with my daughter (Chorister grandson's mum). I'm really looking forward to that.

Sending love to @Theoldwoman So sorry for the loss of your DD.

DH is currently getting DD back from Oxford Uni for Christmas, will be lovely to have her home but rather grim weather for DH to drive in. Floof will be very happy to have her back as well.

I am having a cup of tea and an orange juice and watching Netflix, Joy, which is lovely. Expecting a car rammed full of DDs stuff though at least the fridge is allowed to stay.

Hope everyone is OK with the storm.

Decafflatteplease · 07/12/2024 10:39

Morning @lucysmam and all. Hope the foot is ok!

It's a wet and wild day here, woke up to the outbuildings doors almost off their hinges and a large tree in our garden is doing a good impression of the womping willow 😱

DH is braving the storm this morning to go and get out Christmas tree. We get it from a local farmshop and they will deliver this afternoon.

We'll let it settle overnight then decorate tomorrow.

Today is the tidying ready for the tree so we actually have space to put it!

Pizza for tea with a film I think!

Topsy44 · 07/12/2024 11:52

Have a cat on my lap so clearly cannot do anything but scroll and watch a Xmas film.

After that, I will be putting up Xmas tree and scooping out washer from dishwasher as it has decided after 16 years it’s had enough of washing my pots.

Need to pop out this afternoon for a quick top up shop, fancy steak and chips for tea in front of Strictly.

Hope all are ok in the Red Zone today,

The Old Woman - I am so sorry for your loss.

OneLilacEagle · 07/12/2024 12:17

Morning all

We'll, our plans for a quietly festive weekend have been uprooted by a call from my mum's care home - her condition is deteriorating (she has dementia) and isn't eating well. So we're driving down to see how she is and if anything else needs to be done. It's 3 hours each way but luckily we're not in the stormy part of the country. Feeling very shaky and upset today. My parents' situation is very complicated and difficult and I feel like I have just pushed away all my emotions about it and focused on getting all the practical stuff done. So that's all bubbling up with a vengeance. Luckily, my DH is a diamond and a fantastic support.

lucysmam · 07/12/2024 12:39

@OneLilacEagle I wish you well on your trip, it sounds very hard 💐

Stollen is on its first prove & oranges are cut and drying as much as they dry on kitchen paper while I wait for an empty socket to plug in the air fryer - I'm going to try the dehydrate setting so the oven's free for mince pies and the stollen. Off up for ladders in a mo, so ceiling decs can go up while the stollen proves. My kitchen smells rather lovely 😊

Good morning lucysmam and all,
You window looks wonderful!

I am getting through a rotten cold, which means I am missing the coven circle tonight, sadly.
Also, my bad ankle decided to become a permanent feature this last week and walking is pretty painful. I am going to strap it up and hope for the best.
I have a gynaecology appointment booked for Monday, somewhat unexpectedly, so I am hoping they haven't found anything too worrying post hysterectomy; my recovery has been amazing!

The storm hasn't got here yet but I have no activities planned that involve going out. DH bought a miscellaneous veg box from the supermarket, the contents of which are begging to be made into ratatouille.
I think that will be enough for today, for me. Might do some online Xmas shopping, if inspiration hits.

We managed to box up lots of the kitchen stuff because hopefully, the work will begin next week! There's still some left to clear, but I will leave it until we know a date and which job he will work on first. (There's still part of me that doesn’t believe it will happen, as so many trades have let us down)

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, @Theoldwoman 💐

And I hope that everyone in the zones keeps safe and comes through without too much damage.

elfoff23 · 07/12/2024 12:43

We were meant to be going to a Christmas market today too but the storm has put paid to that! Also got a poorly toddler so it's another nice excuse to keep warm and stay inside. She's currently asleep on the sofa next to me and older dc is in his room. Dh having a nap as it was a long night with the wind and intermittent wake ups from dd.

Reading my book while she sleeps and having a coffee. Later I do need to brave the weather and pop to the shops to post a parcel and pick up more calpol. Then it'll be back home for strictly and a takeaway. Really hoping dd will pick up as we have a few days away planned starting tomorrow.

mondaytosunday · 07/12/2024 12:47

Good afternoon! Up had breakfast a bit early (dog gets me up but decided to have breakfast rather than wait til 12). Such miserable weather so the garden might just be it for the dog today unless there's a dry spell (she hates rain).
Then designed a mug for a present and paid bills while watching YouTube. Waitrose rang to deliver a couple hours early snd noticed the wind had opened the top of the bins so had to pick up some stuff that had been blown about! Fun fun.
Today and tomorrow I need to get all my Xmas cards done! Plus finish a throw I'm crocheting for my sister so I can post it all Monday. I finished decorating yesterday.

@Giggorata your coven always intrigues me. They sound like a lovely bunch of people from what you say about them.

Ladders are down, just need chief holder to reappear from her bedroom - this will be in either several hours or when I get the marzipan out for the stollen 🤣

Where did you go?

I’ve been in Edinburgh with some lovely work colleagues. It was just lovely. Probably the nicest Christmas market I’ve ever been to, done really great food and we even did a chocolate making class. Edinburgh looked absolutely splendid all dressed to for Christmas.

elfoff23 · 07/12/2024 13:12

@Purplegreenredblue supposed to be going to Gullivers Kingdom for a short break/Christmas package thing. Fingers crossed we can still go but not sure how much fun it will be in a storm with a poorly toddler.

gingercat02 · 07/12/2024 13:14

Afternoon all.
Absolutely nothing involving going outside, storm Darragh is in full swing here.
Some washing to do, online shop has been, otherwise just chilling inside

gingercat02 · 07/12/2024 13:17

@Theoldwoman so sorry for your loss

Peridot1 · 07/12/2024 13:21

Afternoon everyone.

@Theoldwoman - I’m so sorry for your loss. How tragic and heartbreaking.

I ended up out in the garden rescuing the recycling bin and its contents from the back lawn early on and almost got blown away. So no outdoor plans here. Not that there were really.

I had a root canal in Monday which got very infected so I’m on double antibiotics and painkillers and fed up eating mush. Had an implant placed on the other side two weeks ago so both sides of my mouth are sore and out of action. And a strict no alcohol warning from the dentist. And the roof of my mouth is now sore too so I think I have a few mouth ulcers.

Plans today are to put up our second Christmas tree and finish sorting out some other bits. I’m aiming for a cosy Scandi look especially in the kitchen but can’t seem to achieve what I want.

Your window looks fab @lucysmam.

Nearly 4pm here and 38 degrees Celsius. Sitting on the couch with the iPad. Dogs are chilling nearby. My granddaughter has just left. 23 year old DD has gone to a festival. DH gone to the supermarket. Not feeling Christmassey at all after burying our 21 year old daughter last week.

I’m so very sorry. Wishing you strength at this dreadful time.

RabbitsRock · 07/12/2024 12:13

loudplumdog I couldn’t find a message from you before the one that said thank you - confused who you lost?

Sorry for the confusion. For some reason I have this username on my iPad and the other one, which I barely use on my phone. I can’t remember passwords to get in and change it to one account.

Anyway, I buried my 21 year old daughter last week. She just dropped dead one morning. She was still living at home and we were very very close. She’s my youngest. I am obviously beyond devastated, life certainly can throw us some cruel curveballs.

Judellie · 07/12/2024 16:51

@Theoldwoman so sorry for your loss.
Today I had scrambled egg and sausage for breakfast with my daughter then took her to work for 11.
Did a tiny bit of shopping at Mand S - I bought a box of dates for my nephew and some potatoes for us. Also got some coffee and vream fudge at Chuckling Cheese.
Really windy here, washing blowing all around; I got as much in as i could but have had to dump some in the bath to be washed again and some's had to stay out as i had no more room to dry it. Pity I wasn't washing any pillowcases; we have 107 of them and there's only 4 of us. 4 single beds and one double.
DH did salmon and rice for us for lunch and DS went off to help do the Christmas tree and crib at church.
Managed to hoover and do kitchen floor today - my right knee and my left arm have been incredibly sore for weeks since twisting my knee at Clip and Climb Adult session the other week (I finally had found an exercise I enjoyed)!
DH went for a lie down as he's still on crutches/painkillers and has just got up and decided to do himself a baked potato. Although he's just come in and whinged that there's only micro chips so looks like he's changed his mind
I asked him if he wanted to wrap up some presents (electric toothbrush for everyone) and he said he would but hasn't so done that myself.
DD's Top Trumps arrived from Greggs - not sure why she wants those.
Got a candy cane in my picture Advent calendar.
Need to pick DD up at 8 - also need wrapping paper so will get that then
