Fb messenger help- message request?

I've had a 'message request' from someone whom I really don't want to hear from.

Normally message requests go into a separate folder that you'd have to manually access and then you can click on them and choose whether to accept or not.

This message has gone into my normal message folder but with 'message request' written above it.

I want it gone from my inbox in case I click on it by mistake, I communicate with friends and family a lot this way-does anyone know what will happen if I click on it, do I still have the option to accept or not?

I really do not want a conversation with this person..the message popped up while I was using my phone so I know what it says and it is argumentative and about a topic I really do not want to enter into. Me and this person haven't spoken in well over a decade and I'd like to leave it that way!

Does anyone know please?

Press and hold the message - you then get a menu to delete, restrict, report, block etc.

Block them and go on about your day.

If you just press and don't hold it will open, the hold is key.

Thank you both. I got the msg at around midnight and then they sent another one just before 02:00(bloody storm had woken me up). Makes me think booze (or other things, knowing this person) was a factor.

I pressed and held and I got the menu to restrict which have done.
Didn't want to block as I think they'll notice that and know I've seen the msg.

Just hope that restricting doesn't do the same thing!
