When feedback is negative.

At work, when you get a criticism or negative feedback, what do you do with it if you are sensitive and easily (secretly) upset by what is said?

Had a shit sandwich today, delivered badly and it’s all I can think about.

I feel shit about it. Didn’t show it of course, very much took it on the chin and played a blinder of a cover up.

Have you ever been given negative feedback? What was it? Was it serious or minor and how did you process it?
😞
I’ll be fine about it by Monday, but jeez, it’s hard going.

Try to put it into perspective if you can. It’s been said now so process what was said, have a think about how you can make improvements and move on. Don’t dwell on it because fretting etc doesn’t achieve anything. Go in on Monday with a positive attitude and make the necessary changes 🌺

Well it’s never a nice feeling I tend to react as you did, then have myself a quiet pity party before giving my head a wobble and reflecting on the criticism and taking it on board.

I can’t ever imagine having an ego so big, to have painted a picture of myself that’s such perfection, that some negative feedback would impact me so negatively! 😮

I tend to take it onboard thinking, yeah fair point, I’ll have a go at improving that. It’s that simple.

You need to check yourself OP.

It’s less about an inflated ego, more about being a chronic people pleaser so not managing anything negative well.

Thanks! This is a great policy and to be fair, the route I am going down.

This is me. This is my experience. it's complete opposite of what @sometimesmovingforwards which is arrogance. It's low self esteem and imposter syndrome. I'm not a perfectionist but do want to do things right.

I'm still cannot handle it now and I have been in my current job 6 year and never had any negative feedback.

I still fear I will lose my job. I looked at being a highly sensitive person and I resonate with that. I am highly self critical too. "Well that was a shit show" is my most useful phrase to myself.

We laugh about the shit sandwich at work all the time. I to my direct LM say can I have feed back I'm on this as long as it only good - working great place though.

If I was to received negative feedback it would ruin the next two - three weeks.

What is helpful is the black dot. Think of a white box with a a black dot in it. The negative feedback is then the black dot, the rest of the white is the rest of the performance and by focussing on the the black dot - 1%- we are not putting things into perspective.

I feel this! I'm also a crier, so I tend to go for a long walk with headphones in to feel all the feelings. Playlist vs emotion normally goes (lightharted estimate - sometimes I need 2 angry songs 😂)

All By Myself + crying

Abcdefu + being mad/rage writing my immediate resignation in my head

Fix You + realisation they may have a point

Suddenly I See + getting my bounce back and heading to apologise to those I have wronged and make meaningful changes going forward
