Possible cellulitis round eye, can't tell if it looks worse. Pics for opinions please!

I woke up yesterday with what was described as periorbital cellulitis, basically a massive eye. Doc gave me strong antibiotics and said if it looked any worse/no better today to go straight to A&E/urgent care for assesment and stronger antibiotics to avoid it progressing.

I can't tell if it is worse, or just different? Pic with blue painting in the background is last night after 3 doses of antibiotics.

Pics 2 and 3 (with blue chair and spotlight behind me) are this morning.

I can open my eye more than yesterday morning, but feel like it is puffier underneath. Does that qualify as worse? 🤔

You're clearly worried about it, so go to hospital.

brbg2g · 06/12/2024 08:27

Yes it does look worse OP I would go.

randoname · 06/12/2024 08:28

Can’t tell but go back to hospital. Protocol used to be iv antibiotics for certainty.

It's definitely worse - your eye is swelling closed from top and bottom.

mikado1 · 06/12/2024 08:34

Don't delay, too close to the brain. Surprised you weren't also given steroid drops.

SidekickSylvia · 06/12/2024 08:35

I think the top of your eye (brow and lid) looks slightly better, but your under eye looks a bit worse. I think if it were me, I'd go to hospital to be on the safe side.

Frozensnowflake · 06/12/2024 08:35

It looks more swollen to me- I would get it checked

Poppetssss · 06/12/2024 08:52

I think the redness is going down your face so yes do get it checked. Do you feel more ‘off’ at all as well? If so mention that too.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 06/12/2024 09:15

It looks much worse to me.

jellybellysaregood · 06/12/2024 09:21

it's much worse, definitely go to hospital today

Motnight · 06/12/2024 09:21

Definitely a and e or emergency care Op.

WalterdelaMare · 06/12/2024 09:25

Definitely go to hospital. It might be worse, but that might be because it’s morning puffiness. But get yourself checked to be safe.

iwantaflamingo · 06/12/2024 09:37

Please please go to hospital. My son had exactly this and was on IV antibiotics for four days as it's so close to the brain. Admittedly it was much redder than yours but you can't see what's going on inside! I wouldn't wait for oral antibiotics to kick in at all.

Harridan1981 · 06/12/2024 12:30

I'm waiting now, doing my best elephant man impression. 😁

GP said to go to opthalmology after.

I can't/won't even wear make up on the rest of my face as it is so sore, so I look cracking at the moment.

Sandwichgen · 06/12/2024 13:36

Best of luck, OP. I think you’ll be in for a day or two with IV antibiotics

iwantaflamingo · 09/12/2024 23:20

How did you get on? @Harridan1981

PickAChew · 09/12/2024 23:30

That looks so uncomfortable. Any improvement, @Harridan1981 ?

Sockmate123 · 09/12/2024 23:37

I think I have this at the moment but not as bad and not in eye...on cheeks of face. Did you get it post botox by any chance OP? Hope you feel better soon..

Tillow4ever · 10/12/2024 00:21

How are you? I had this in the summer - a dental infection that spread up my face just under the eye. My whole left cheek was massively swollen and I was in a lot of pain... and due to go on our only family holiday planned a couple of days later. It took me lots of phone calls over the weekend to finally see an emergency nhs dentist on the Monday morning before we were due to go. The dentist was very, very concerned about how close to my eye it was and gave me 2 lots of different antibiotics with very strict instructions to go immediately to A&E if there was any sign of it getting worse. Luckily we were only going away in the UK, but it did ruin my holiday for me.

I ended up with 2 more lots of antibiotics when I got back as it had halted it but not cleared it. 6 months later and there is still something there - that side of my face is still swollen a little, and sometimes hot to the touch. It's very painful in my cheekbone too. The dentist is concerned if the infection comes back properly, we won't be able to treat it next time. So basically I'm in a constant state of paranoia over it! Based on that, i would always suggest getting it checked out so you can get it cleared all at once and not be left with something lingering for months.

Good luck!
