Ideas on how to make Christmas somewhat special when it'll just be three of us

Me, dp, young adult dc. How can we make it not feel like a complete damp squib?

I don't want to go out for lunch really, so assume we'll be at home.

Ideas please!

Gosh, every Christmas for us is 'just' the 3 of us, never felt like a damp squib. Cook a lovely meal, get lots of delicious snacks in, watch some good TV, lovely.

I wonder how many people you need to make Christmas not a damp squib but not be chaotic and overwhelming?

Christmas with your adult child and partner sounds lovely. Get up when you wish, have pastries and Buck’s Fizz while leisurely opening presents. Lunch of whatever you fancy. Christmas cocktails. Tea of cheese board and more cocktails.

I'd rather a smaller Christmas in theory but just want to make sure it feels special.

It will be lovely op!!

dont overthink it- decent food, tub, church if you are into that

We will be just me, DH and DS aged 15. People we had invited are now unable to come for family reasons, and we had already bought a turkey and ham etc. So we are still going to cook it all and be as festive as possible. It should be nice and relaxing (I hope). All our family (other DCs and their partners, my parents and my and DHs siblings) are all in other countries so we will do lots of video calls throughout the day.

Don't need a houseful to make Christmas special

theDudesmummy · 05/12/2024 19:25

Years ago me and DH were super broke at Christmas time and we had what has become known infamously between us as the "chicken Christmas" (we couldn't afford a turkey, or much else to be honest). We always feel grateful that it is "not a chicken Christmas this year".

Can you do a games console it's a knockout, fighting game like tekken?

Do you want to leave the house?

Can you afford a big lego set to build? (Home alone house specifically)

Are you outdoors, indoors, crafty, musical people?

Advise really depends on who you all are together really, no point saying go for a christmas day hill walk if that's you idea of hell

No point saying go to local during their 2 hours open if you don't go to pubs
