I've been told 3 times in the last month I'm unusually short! I'm in my 30s and measured myself yesterday I'm 5 foot 3! Now I have a complex 😂

How has this only just come to your attention?

ChristmasWitchy · 05/12/2024 08:11

Hahah the comments !

The average height of a woman in the UK is 5'4 so you are nowhere near 'unusually short'. Do you happen to have a lot of tall friends?

username299 · 05/12/2024 08:14

You're average height.

NoEscapingMe · 05/12/2024 08:14

Don't worry OP. I'm 5'1". Embrace it.

DustyLee123 · 05/12/2024 08:15

You sound normal to me

Itrytobesensible · 05/12/2024 08:17

I'm a lot older than you but I'm 5ft 2ins.
When I was younger I knew I wasn't tall but it's only in recent years I've felt really short, mainly because younger generations are getting generally progressively taller.

It wouldn't bother me if wasn't for the fact finding clothes to buy, especially trousers, suitable is getting harder and harder. And reaching for things in supermarkets is a bit of an issue as they don't make any allowances for smaller people.

No point having a complex though OP. There is nothing wrong with being 5ft 3ins.People commenting on your height and making you feel self conscious are just plain rude.

ChristmasWitchy · 05/12/2024 08:19

Not really re tall friends. My 3 best mates are 5 foot and 2 are 5 foot 4/5.
I have short legs so maybe that's why lol.

Maybe if you’re on a basketball team but there’s nothing wrong with being short anyway.

I'm 5'4 with short legs - it's a pain; can't wear boots because they never finish in the right place; very easily look 'top heavy'.

Thatwouldbeme · 05/12/2024 08:26

I'm 5'3and a bit, I'm the tallest female in my family by far 😁.

I've got no tits so I'm okay lol

Same. I'm the only female over 5 foot.

You're lucky, I've got humungous boobs, I'd love to be flat chested.

Hugmorecats · 05/12/2024 08:31

I’m 5”1. Sometimes it has advantages- more leg room on long journeys for example. I’d love to be even average height but it is what it is.

Beezknees · 05/12/2024 08:31

That's definitely not unusually short! It's about average/just below average. I'd say unusually short is under 5'. I'm 5'4 and a half, and consider myself average height for a woman.

ChristmasWitchy · 05/12/2024 08:33

I actually measured myself in work on the special machine. 160cm

Move to Wales. (Lighthearted!)

Dd23 is 5'4" and feels like a giant - she lives just outside Swansea and the pics of her out with local friends, do show a fair difference in heights.

Maybe your commenters are from parts of the UK with unusually tall people.

BrerRabbit90 · 05/12/2024 08:34

I'm 5'2 and actually I think of myself as short ...my sisters are smaller than me but all my friends/acquaintances and my sils are taller, even if just by a couple of inches! But I certainly wouldn't call it 'unusually' short, just a bit shorter than average.

mbosnz · 05/12/2024 08:35

I'm five foot half an inch. That is a very important half an inch. So to speak. I also have comically short legs (according to my easily amused daughters), big tits, and a bad case of horserider's arse. I'm like a weeble.

Sigh.

5'3"? I'd give my right arm to be 5'3", lol.

But you gotta work with what you got.

Pinkyhere · 05/12/2024 08:36

Better than being unusually stupid/rude/annoying

ChristmasWitchy · 05/12/2024 08:37

I'm up north so people shouldn't be too tall up this way ?!?

OP posts:
Resilience · 05/12/2024 08:46

I'm 5 foot 3 too. I don't generally feel short until I can't get something down off a high shelf or find a motorbike I can't ride because I can't touch the floor sat on it. I come from Wales and was the tallest woman in my family, although where I live now most women seem to be around 5'6" to so.

I think I have excellent posture (I'm very fit) as I often get comments that people think I'm tall and only realise I'm not when they stand next to me.

livingafulllife · 05/12/2024 08:50

Im short im 4foot11 and love it.

bigkidatheart · 05/12/2024 08:51

5' 3.5" (the half inch matters!) in my 40's. I hate being short. When i need to speak to my team at work they get me a box to stand on! And now due to OA I can no longer wear anything with a heel. I also have a long body and shorter legs. Get shouted at often in the supermarkets for standing on the bottom shelf to reach the won on the top shelf 😂

A few years ago, someone selling somthing came tot he door, i answered and he said 'hi, is your mum or dad in', then took a closer look looked really embarrassed
