I don’t know but we’re also considering a month’s travel somewhere while the kids are small (I’m taking redundancy so will have an expected period of leave and want to use it wisely!)

Well, what’s your budget? Are you solo or with friends, family or children? What do you like doing? How far are you prepared to travel?

Greenstonecurt · 04/12/2024 00:02

1 and 4, you?

I think the best thing to do would be pick a country like France and try and go off the beaten track a bit with airbnbs and a car! No idea why I think this though 😂

JennyTals · 04/12/2024 00:21

One in primary and an older one, dh will only come for a fortnight,as he won't be able to get amonth off work.
Somewhere warm/hot

Ideally spend less than 10k

Hire a motor home and drive down the Atlantic coast France-northern Spain.

(It's on my bucket list!)

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 04/12/2024 00:28

I would go somewhere I could travel around and see a few places - like south east Asia. Your husband could still travel out for his 2wk visit.

for somewhere closer to home I would probably do Italy - there are lots of places I would love to see - Rome, Milan, pisa and lots of fabulous food. But again would need to research the logistics of travelling around.

alternatively, Northern Italy, Slovenia, Croatia maybe even Bosnia or Montenegro would be amazing too

Brodpit · 04/12/2024 00:28

Italy

blueshoes · 04/12/2024 00:32

I am not keen on traveling during the summer. It is too hot.

Perhaps Japan and Korea. Or Iceland.

frozendaisy · 04/12/2024 00:54

North america

frozendaisy · 04/12/2024 00:57

North America wouldn't be less than £10k
So £2.5k a week in summer holidays, that makes it harder

Hire a campervan for europe

PissedOffAtApologistsForSA · 04/12/2024 01:04

Croatia. To the coast, mainly.

JennyTals · 04/12/2024 01:06

I'm too scared fo drive a motor home 😩

Bulgaria? Northern France?

PrincessAnne4Eva · 04/12/2024 02:56

Ireland
Sweden
Denmark
The south of Germany
Austria is delightful at the height of summer. Salzburg to Vienna would be a lovely route.

I've been to hot countries in summer and they're unbearable to me.

GulfCoast · 04/12/2024 04:22

England. I live in Florida and it seems half the UK comes here every summer so I’d go to England to escape the crowds and hurricanes. And I like England.

Natsku · 04/12/2024 04:38

I'm hoping to do that this summer, depending on how my holiday time from work will go (new job so not sure how they decide time off yet) but I live abroad and will be going to the UK for the holiday. Did it a couple of years ago for 6 weeks and it was the best holiday, my children absolutely loved it.

From experience, Japan and Korea are incredibly hot and humid in the summer months. Unless you do mountains.

JennyTals · 04/12/2024 07:22

I did think about maybe booking a flat on air b and b in Cornwall for the month, or maybe Cyprus but perhaps too hot even for me then I like it 25-30 but I know Cyprus can get get hotter than that then

Sweden

DilemmaDelilah · 04/12/2024 08:21

We have to avoid extremes of heat and cold and are immunocompromised so we don't fly. So for us it would probably be somewhere in the UK (although I'm not sure how we could the UK in the summer holidays!)

BigDahliaFan · 04/12/2024 08:27

I'd go to France and find an air band b for a month. Pool, near a supermarket, and just chill in guaranteed warm weather.

TotallyTwisted · 04/12/2024 08:31

I'd go to Norway or Sweden, hire a summer house somewhere near the water and just live a simple, quiet, outdoorsy lifestyle for a month.

JennyTals · 07/12/2024 23:23

Yeah like the idea of an air b and b base somewhere then explore from there
Thanks for all the ideas
