Possible vinted scam

Today I popped a Boden coat for sale via Vinted. I've received a message from a user with only one item of feedback and no items for sale. Message attached in full. In short it reads that the item was recalled due to issues with the dye used and resulting skin irritation. But the odd part is they ask for for my thoughts...

We've had the item for a quite a while with multiple wears/wash with no issue. For some reason the message feels a bit 'off' to me and I'm wondering if it's the starter for a low level scam. My cynical sleep deprived brain jumped to... one person messages with warning on recall, another linked user swiftly buys it and then claims refund for skin irritation issues etc. Or am I'm being stupidly cautious!

I've taken the item off sale for now. I've looked through available recall notices and can't see anything for the coat.
Have any mumsnet users experienced this or am I stupidly paranoid and the person is being a good samaritan in a slightly weirdly worded manner...

“Let me know your thoughts on this”… weird.

I’d block that person and email Boden, their customer service is usually fairly responsive.

FuckILookLike · 03/12/2024 21:02

Strange.

I would have googled to see if there was any information on the recall or possibly done a reverse search to see if anything comes up. If I didn’t think anything, I would have left the message on seen

Oh and to add the users profile pic is very young, the coat was on sale a good five years+ ago - and is definately not currently on sale re their points about a recent reissue and selling with new material etc.

Yes good idea re reverse search, and to email Boden - I'll see what they say.
Honestly nothing is simple is it 🤣 all I want to do is sell an old coat!

I’ve just received a similar message re a joules coat and it sounds like the same person with a wrong profile image. I was searching to check about the recall and this thread came up. I really don’t understand the reason that she messaged me but there’s clearly a scam involved.

ScarletWitchM · 01/02/2025 13:36

Report the message to Vinted and carry on regardless.

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/02/2025 13:40

I’d just block the person and carry on selling the coat since you say it’s been fine with your issues.

Vinted is full of scammers and some very odd people. It can be quite demoralising at times. (I recently stopped selling after being scammed and Vinted did nothing about it at all).

Weareoutofwine · 01/02/2025 17:00

Interesting that I'm not alone! I blocked the person and reported. Vinted found no problem. Quite odd really and I suspect just mischief making.

I kept the listing up and sold the coat to a lovely women - no issue.

I really enjoy buying and selling via vinted. But there is occasionally an odd/difficult person. Reflective of life I suppose.

Great that you sold it. I’ll persevere. I also like the recycling aspect of vinted.

The only Boden recall I can find is JP Boden in the States for flammable (risk of-) children’s dungarees and pajamas. I think a UK recall would come higher up in search results for Boden coat recall?

I’ve just had exactly the same message on Vinted about a Joules kids coat I put on there this morning!
I also thought it sounded a bit off, even though I can’t think how it could be a scam!
As you did, I searched for Joules recalls and didn’t find any, apart from some pyjamas.
Will block and report. Thank you for putting this on here 😊

Bloody weirdos, just ignore and report to Vinted .

BobbyBiscuits · 02/03/2025 13:40

When she says her one 'went straight in the bin'. Why? Surely she'd contact customer services and they'd need her to return it for inspection if it was indeed "poisoned'. And how would she know your coat is the same as the dodgy one when she admits they made others of the same design. It must be so an affiliate of hers can offer to buy it at a discounted price then complain. Why does she tell you to destroy the coat, as opposed to contacting Boden?

Weird and dodgy AF.
