What's one thing a friend, family member, or even a stranger could say to you that would brighten your entire day?

Sadly, none of my family are multi millionaires or do the lottery, so I'm out of luck there.

Right now I would like someone to tell me they've made me a cup of tea and done the washing up.

I’m always happy when one of the other two adults in the house says ‘I’ll make dinner’.

My partner: I see you're stressed with the household load. I'll start doing more.
My brother: I'll go and see dad and get the house ready for mum coming out of hospital. You're heavily pregnant and stressed and I have no commitments.

Someone could say to me: "Thank you so much for (doing whatever it is I did to help them, or say something kind to them)
"You've really brightened my day!

That would make me smile and 'brighten my whole day' :)

Family member or friend: "It's my turn to cook tonight".

Random stranger: a smile or a simple "Thank you" would be nice, especially if I've just held open a door for them or similar.

I often get students saying they enjoyed my class or learned a lot and that really brightens my day.
Also 'ill wash up' from the kids would be great but I don't think has ever happened

"We would like to offer you the position you interviewed for, and we'll pay you the amount you asked" from the interviewer I met with this morning.

My father: “turns out the treatment is working after all and the tumour is shrinking”

I had a manager 3 steps removed say that to me when he got on the bus I was on one time. Struck me as a lovely thing to say and I stole it from him.

It's nice to be recognised and I'm really grateful this happens a lot at my workplace!

I was walking my toddler twins home today and they were being, to my mind, quite stroppy and difficult, stopping to spin in circles and generally delay getting home. An older lady was walking by in the opposite direction, very unsteady on her feet, her arm in her son’s (?) possibly. She watched them as she approached us and said to me, “They are so lovely. It’s made my day seeing them play like that.” Completely shifted my perspective.

That the police are actually going to arrest my neighbour who keeps harassing me.

Someone told me today that I am the most positive, joyous and funny person that they know.

That was pretty nice.

Years ago I attended a ridiculous training session at work. The only thing I recalled was making a compliment to someone can really make someones day- either a shop worker, someone you've just met at an event or someone you already know.

I don't make it my mission to complement every single person I see, but its lovely to see someones face light up when you compliment their earrings, blouse, shoes etc. Especially if they are doing a mundane type of job where they are dealing with often shitty general public all day.

Oh sorry. I meant because you clearly took heed of the words, they were meaningful and recognisable to you. They’re the best compliments aren’t they - the ones that you know were just for you and true.
