Have been tasked with buying secret Santa in the office with a £1 limit and 'tat' as the theme.
It is harder than it looks.
Anyone seen anything extra cheap and tatty?

Can you pop into a charity shop and see if they have a bargain bin? You can’t buy much for £1 nowadays!

WorriedMillie · 01/12/2024 18:03

(Or ask friends if they have any tat they want to get rid of and pretend you bought it from a charity shop 🤣)

Buoy through worst looking christmas tree de decoration you can find in home bargains or poundland

Appalling mugs in charity shops us usually a good one. You'll even find royal wedding tat which is my favourite to buy people 😂

BashfulClam · 01/12/2024 18:09

So this stuff will probably just end up in landfill :(

ginasevern · 01/12/2024 18:09

Or just call it a "secret landfill fest"! How we all laughed!

FestiveFruitloop · 01/12/2024 18:11

Ugh, so depressing that they've made tat the actual theme, it's probably all going to end up in landfill! Before I saw that tat was the theme I was going to suggest something like a book in good condition from a charity shop.

PoissonOfTheChrist · 01/12/2024 18:12

Buy a biro pen. It will at least be used rather than just buying to put in the bin.

Bollindger · 01/12/2024 18:15

Off to the carboot sale for you.

unsync · 01/12/2024 18:17

We always go to charity shops for our SS. They are a good source of Christmas decorations which make good, neutral gifts, or weird books, puzzles and games.

JC03745 · 01/12/2024 18:20

I'd get something that might at least have some use, rather than absolute tat. Who decides a theme like that??? 🙄
-A scratch card
-Pen
-Note pad
-packet of crisps/small chocolate bar

Bjorkdidit · 01/12/2024 18:23

I'd probably get a scratchcard but if it has to be a 'thing' then Poundland is the obvious place to look.

I commented above you, and even looked at the poundland website for inspiration. I actually couldn't find a single thing on there for £1!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. I think charity shop may be the answer. Or a Biro!

I'd buy a trolley coin, at least there's a chance it would get used.

That's a brilliant idea. I'm always losing them so I'd be happy with that. Unlike when I got a Christmas pudding shower hat when the theme wasn't tat and the limit was £10 and I'd bought some nice chocolates. Few years ago so £10 went further back then.

Hedgehogextinctionrebellion · 01/12/2024 19:38

a hologram picture that changed from Jesus to Mary was a winner for this at a similar work secret Santa I was in a few years ago. We were in a different country so I can’t help you find it, but this is the nearest thing

I just wouldn't be involved, I don't "get" secret santa as a general thing but this is extra bleurgh .
(Obviously opinions differ )
