Morrisons just dropped my delivery off. Unfortunately this has been left on the bottle of Sherry.

Anyone know how to remove it?

Currently on hold to Morrisons.

God this thread makes me look like a total lush Grin

Anyone know how to remove this?

We had that once, I watched a YouTube video, can't remember now tho sorry. Pop in-store tomorrow? Is it for a trifle at Christmas?

ProssecoSparkle · 30/11/2024 20:14

Thank you will have a look on YouTube. Unfortunately the nearest store is a hour and a half away. Yeah it's for the trifle and I like a Sherry when putting the tree up.

Think I used a hacksaw. One Christmas I was given whisky by several different people and they all had the security thingy on. Pliers work too, ordering from the bottom edge.

Doggymummar · 30/11/2024 20:19

AHH so yeah YouTube is your best bet if you want it tonight/tomorrow

ProssecoSparkle · 30/11/2024 20:31

Thanks all. Morrisons said they are going to send someone out tomorrow to remove the cap.

You need either a strong magnet or a thin flexible knife. Plastic knives from a picnic set work well. Slide it up slowly between the bottle and the security cap, it will trigger a lever that releases the cap.

After several grocery deliveries that have included boxed and unchecked spirits I've become a dab hand at this (thanks to YouTube).

ProssecoSparkle · 30/11/2024 21:00

Thanks Monty. I tried that with a plastic picnic knife. The knife slid right to the top of the bottle and under the security tag but nothing happened.

Is there another supermarket closer? If Morrisons don't send someone out, you could take it somewhere else, along with the receipt, and ask them? I've taken a matalan coat to our nearest Tesco before after it was delivered with the security tag on - they asked for a receipt (which is fair enough), but were happy to do it.

Letmegohome · 30/11/2024 21:07

Shops really aren't meant to remove other shops security tags and some tags contain a dye!

ProssecoSparkle · 30/11/2024 21:19

@Letmegohome I was anxious when I was poking about with the knife that dye was going to pour everywhere 😳

@Kingofthetyrantlizards there isn't another shop nearby sadly. I live extremely rural all shops are over a hour and a half away. There is a tiny local shop fifteen miles away but that just does milk bread and a few tins.

@ProssecoSparkle not all do have dye but they ( used to be, not 100% sure now) go with some force when triggered .

Glad someone's coming to sort it for you

steponacrackbreakyourmothersback · 30/11/2024 22:09

I had this in the Lake District once I was gutted and ended up driving an hour to resolve it

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 30/11/2024 23:03

Maybe rotate the bottle and try again in a different spot? The lever doesn't go all the way round so you have to be in the right place.

Or it could be a completely different type I guess...

ProssecoSparkle · 02/12/2024 21:18

Update. Morrisons didn't call or chap my door. I am £12 down and stuck with a useless bottle of Sherry.

There’s a couple of videos on YouTube suggesting you can use a screwdriver and big knife to remove it? I had a security tag on a bra the other day and good old YouTube told me how to remove it with two forks - took some fiddling but worked a treat!

I got 2 bottles of liquer with tags still on, from Morrisons, ordered through Amazon, last year. I complained and they refunded without needing to return. They were the old fashioned type, and although it looked as though they were knicked, I was able to remove the tops with the tags still attached, and use them in cocktails as planned
Win Win for me (just had to tolerate teasing about being a tea leaf

ProssecoSparkle · 02/12/2024 22:01

Dh has had a look on YouTube and none of the videos have the same as mine. This is a hill I am prepared to die on 🤣

Think I will email morrisons and attach the picture. See what they say.

Another update: I requested a refund from Morrisons and haven't heard anything back from them. DH is currently in the kitchen trying to get it off with a hacksaw, so I can have a Sherry when we decorate our tree tonight.

Magnet, you need to hold a decent neodymium magnet at just the right point to release the catch inside the security cap.

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄✨️🥳🤣🤪

Anyone know how to remove this?
