Indoor Reykjavik recommendations

Travelling next weekend and a couple of the days of our trip look a bit sleety and grotty. Does anyone have any good indoor recommendations that don't involve going from place to place?

It's a group of women in our 40s.

I've been to Iceland a couple of times in winter and just dressed appropriately for the sleet and cold and carried on in the great outdoors.

If you must be inside there's a penis museum in Reykjavik that's definitely eye-opening, and a whale museum with life size models of different species that I found quite interesting.

Perlan museum is good, theres also the national museum of iceland, if you like swimming the public baths are really good.

Yes, we went to the public outdoor baths in the snow. The water is heated so it's just a few steps and then lovely. There are several outdoor complexes in or near the centre.

The National Museum is very good in my opinion.

Go to a pool. Doesn't matter what the weather is like when you're in a big hot tub. In fact it's quite fun when the weather's bad.

The Lava Show is pretty fun (and warm 😄)

But yes, sleet and unpleasantness is par for the course at this time of year. And you will have to go from place to place unless you plan to make a museum last all day, which they can't really.

Just checked Google maps and they're 20 minutes walk apart, but there seems to be a few other attractions around the Whale museum. Something about Lava, the Northern Lights Centre and a simulated 'Fly Over Iceland' thing that looks quite cool. Don't think that was there when I last went as it would have appealed to me!

I LOVED the maritime museum and spent hours in there. I could have spent the whole day there, in fact. Very well presented, loads of social history. Appreciate it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, though.

Did the flyover Reykjavik thing - fun but doesn’t last long.

The pools will help you here as others have said as you can wallow outside comfortably in most weathers.

The public baths are lovely, Blue Lagoon was over rated! And like a previous poster, we dressed appropriately for the weather!

Snorkeling over the tectonic plates and caving were amazing!
