Talk to me about KitchenAids!

Looking at buying one in the Black Friday sales as there are some big reductions. Been wanting a stand mixer for a while and they seem to get good reviews. If you have one, would you recommend it?

And should I go for a sensible colour which coordinates with everything else in the kitchen, or just pick a colour I love?!

Hated it! It was so loud and i didn’t find it mixed that well.! The wire balloon whisk has to be hand washed amongst other things and i felt the build quality wasn't as good as it should be fir the price . I reverted back to my 30 year old Kenwood (also have a newer one and my Mums almost 60 year old one but the 30 year old is my favourite).

<<whispers>> I thought the same as you.

It's beautiful but noise wise and functionally my ancient kenwood was superior.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/11/2024 07:34

I have a candy apple red one. It's a thing of beauty and also sits on the worktop all the time!

Mine was a BF bargain 7 years ago as a refurbished one direct from KitchenAid. It used to get far more use that it does now, but it's not redundant by any stretch of the imagination!

baddayformeredith · 30/11/2024 09:10

Well done op, how exciting. And you got a fun colour too!
I've got a grey one and I love it. It was a gift as otherwise I would have bought a different colour.
I've got several attachments too. The dough hook is good and we make pizza dough a lot. The ballon whisk is supposed to be hand washed but I got fed up and put it in the top drawer of the dishwasher and it's fine.
The grater is brilliant but definitely a pain to hand wash.

baddayformeredith · 30/11/2024 09:11

I also meant to say that Nigella had a copper one in her kitchen which I loved and when I looked up the price, it was way over £1000 so stuck with the grey one.

WalterdelaMare · 30/11/2024 09:14

We’ve had ours about 20 years and love it. It’s the only thing that’s allowed out in the kitchen apart from the Sage coffee machine.

Please point me in the direction of good deals ! I have been thinking of getting one for ages.

@Tealeavesinthecup , I got my pink one from Lakeland but KitchenAid themselves have good deals on at the moment depending on what colour and style - I was keen to get one with two bowls. You can also max the discount by going via a cashback site like TopCashback, which could get you an extra 5% off with KitchenAid.

@SleepingisanArt , my mum had a Kenwood for over 40 years so I hear you - the older ones are workhorses. I have never had one before so anything will be an improvement on my old hand mixer!

I have a silver KitchenAid and a Kenwood Chef. My KitchenAid is definitely more stylish but I actually use the Kenwood more, which surprised me as I upgraded to the KitchenAid but I end up reaching for the Kenwood still. The only reason being that I don’t find the splash guard on the KitchenAid really works and I end up making a mess 😂. I’ve tried lots of different ways to contain it, but the surrounding area still gets splattered.

Redkitesoaring · 30/11/2024 09:27

My beauty is red. You won’t regret it.

GrouchyKiwi · 30/11/2024 09:30

I've read that newer KitchenAids aren't as good as the models from about 10 years ago, but this is only a problem if you're regularly making bread dough. The motors aren't as powerful and can't handle the heavy duty mixing. If you're not into making bread, however, they're fantastic. Perfect meringues, lovely cakes.

Mine is 11 years old now, and it's starting to wear out. It's now out of warranty, and finding someone to service it is tricky, but I'm hopeful I can. I make a loaf of sourdough in it every two days so need it to work!

Am thinking of getting an Ankarsrum to replace, when I need to.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 30/11/2024 09:30

I bought one in a Black Friday deal about three years ago. It was beautiful but I didn't use it enough to justify the space it took up in my worktop. I still preferred my magimix for everything (had one for about 25 years, replaced parts & upgraded). So I sold it.
They are beautiful but my magimix works better for me.

Go with the colour you love- there's enough to be sensible about in life, if you're going to get one, go for it big time!

AnnaMagnani · 30/11/2024 09:31

I also have a KitchenAid and a Kenwood Chef.

The Kenwood gets used a lot more and the KitchenAid mainly just sits there.

herewegoagain1960s · 30/11/2024 09:32

I was lucky enough to be given one. A friend purchased one, never used it and said either i take it or he would give it to a charity shop. He refused any payment. I took it and made a payment to charity in lieu. I love it but I don't use it that much. Cream.

DrZaraCarmichael · 30/11/2024 09:33

Love mine. Like you, got it in a black Friday sale a few years ago. Mine is black, with sort of a sparkle finish. It is kept in a cupboard and heavy to lift in and out all the time though.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 30/11/2024 09:33

Sorry my bad, didn't rtft before posting.

Glad you went with your heart....enjoy! 🩷

CatStoleMyChocolate · 30/11/2024 09:34

@Tealeavesinthecup , I can’t seem to edit but they come with some accessories - beaters, whisk and dough hook. There are certainly lots more accessories you can buy but I’m starting with the standard as I will be using it for baking.

I love mine and have had for 10 years. I don't have a hand mixer (lost that in the divorce lol) and use it all the time. I didn't care about the colour !

CatStoleMyChocolate · 30/11/2024 09:35

@GrouchyKiwi , I can believe that - my mum’s old Kenwood was similar and I honestly thought it would see us off but it eventually went into sharp decline in its early forties 😬. I think a lot of stuff isn’t made to the same standards as the original versions.

Use mine constantly. I would recommend ordering a spare bowl and spare attachments if you really cook a lot, great to have spares for say whipping egg whites to add to a batter.

AnotherDayAnotherOutfit · 30/11/2024 09:58

Ahh glad you ordered OP. Mine was a surprise from DH 15 years ago after I'd been lusting after one for a couple of years prior. It's sat on my worktop in 3 different kitchens in that time and looked good in all of them which is saying something given it's purple...which is where DH went off piste no idea why he thought purple was the best option. I use it most weeks and it's never let me down. Will it last 30,40,50 years like the Kenwoods of old? We shall see! But I'd say it's been worth its price tag already.

Congrats on purchasing one! I bought a KitchenAid in cherry red 2 weeks ago to replace my 50 yr old Kenwood that was at death's door. I am in love with it & it clashes fantastically with my kitchen! And works beautifully.
For those looking to buy one now - Harts of Stur have some brilliant deals. Go through Topcashback to the Harts website and get extra % off!

For those who have used a Magimix and a KA, which do you prefer?
