House Warming Gift for a Single Man

ToSleepPurchancetoDream · 29/11/2024 14:03

A very close friend of mine has bought his first home. I'd like to get hima gift but am unsure what to get. He's quite creative and will want to make his home beautiful.

I was thinking of a vase as people always buy flowes and you always need vases and it's maybe not what a man would think to buy? But they all look boring and not very special as a gift.
I'd like something he keeps for years and thinks 'Kate bought me that I still love it.'
Any beautiful vases for a gift suggestions?

Or other ideas?

Cost up to abot £50.

A gift cert for a nice store, or Amazon? Especially if the man is artistic, he likely has his own set ideas about what he'd like taste-wise, and unless you know for certain what style, type, colour that he likes....?

ToSleepPurchancetoDream · 29/11/2024 14:09

That would be a safer option but I want to choose something for him. I'd like the gift to have meaning and be associated with me, rather than just give him money.

A manly smelling candle
Wine glasses
Coffee mugs

ToSleepPurchancetoDream · 29/11/2024 14:14

I love candles and he does too, but it seems to always be the default gift? I wanted something bit different.

I have been looking at wone glasses but agin they seem a bit generic and not that special. If anyone has wone glasses receommendation that would be a special gift I'd be very interested

Look on Sous Chef? They do a nice mix of homewares/fancy knives/quality produce and cookery books. Most men i know who like cooking can't resist a decent knife (just be sure to give a penny with it so no bad luck!).

ToSleepPurchancetoDream · 29/11/2024 14:19

That's good idea thanks I'll have a look he does like cooking.great.
Something high quality for the kitchen might be

A posh toilet brush

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/11/2024 14:44

Fire extinguisher, kitchen sized.

He will make his home pretty, you can make it safe. It's my housewarming gift and everyone so far has appreciated it. It means you care about them.

A big plant in a neutral but stylish pot? Or bulbs for the garden?

something2say · 29/11/2024 14:47

I'd get a throw for the sofa. He will use that.

Redlarge · 29/11/2024 14:49

Olive oil in a nice bottle.
A fruit bowl
Towels

I think he'd really like that!
Plants are very neutral aren't they, they enhance any room?

A throw would be great I think he would use it and build the 'cosiness' but I think the ones I'd want to get would be more than £50.

Hmm I do love Olive oil in a statement bottle, I also love towels!
It's hard to make towels seem special though? I'd need to go super luxury?

How about a Bonsai tree?

ToSleepPurchancetoDream · 29/11/2024 15:17

If you think a vase would be good, I would buy this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124990364520?_skw=celadon+vase&itmmeta=01JDW7WRB6EV5WVQ8DSSYPBN46&hash=item1d1a019b68%3Ag%3ATq0AAOSwGxlgYZIz&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKldHH5MjD8mZAw4DpjT0QvDUoHr56SxFLtTqifiii8owgEAXrN1R6InORwKah7K%2Bym02vu0v4tRQ1c%2B6UnVdUHZhwq1kPnDLmlS%2FPMU7Mbzkc200Ri12gwWGIPJmXvfhK%2FHEJ03ivG5hikUxS5ggTsCbXMbsJZZ0p4HZqtUF45tfTVW4%2Bozy36ZSUqF62MxPXYnQ4hgqRARM%2BZ%2Bg1FpqYkz5lj1Eyeuok%2BTfGU7V5L0PBy9Ckfv35XnpUgCgQ8RSH0%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9KF84fvZA&LH_BIN=1 or this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185744286443?_skw=celadon+vase&itmmeta=01JDW7WRB6FSTTGQFKDHC78C4J&hash=item2b3f38e2eb%3Ag%3AdHEAAOSwutpdtd5v&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKm9%2BT%2BMjvl1n0Z6egPNROFFS1Xn3v4zuPHA4lB3BnyESUpkT6hjSZXYMLMP2pPqoW3hkzaotjk9EvuBKM28EIp4RMpnXoP39etk%2BZg6nnhsGgBrImDp1I7vCzVAVAKQ85FDIr4%2B7bvCSupWmZM2uiQWQ%2BD7YoV8i9HQPiFcOnIPjLDu4SGVZphuhEI5Qc%2BEqbwQMHX9dcGkleApDWxyqcDHFV66o1yt6KFeZnl1hiD3wSMPJP886CsLqUH8bFomtCc%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9SF84fvZA&LH_BIN=1 celadon goes with everything. Both shapes are good for flowers of different sorts and you would have change to get something to put in them too if you wanted. When it comes to vases, second hand is the way to go.

Or a house plant with a nice pot.

Twoboysanddog · 29/11/2024 15:30

I like the vase, it's different, there is another green one that is nice on OB too..he won't be looking at towels in the future thinking ooh i remember "Kate" buying these.. Having said that I bought my nephew a set of lovely modern cut glass tumbler glasses for his 30th & he was really pleased with them

ToSleepPurchancetoDream · 29/11/2024 15:34

I am loving several of those Oliver Bonas vases!

I do love a set of heavy based tumblers, having nice things is such a small pleasuer in life whihc is why I want to get him something to enjoy as he sets up his home.
