Our kitchen table is starting to look rather battered, so I'm starting to look for a replacement. We are a family of four but we do have guests for a sit-down dinner several times a year. Currently table is a 6 seater and we can comfortably fit a folding 4 seater alongside. We've moved since the table was purchased.
The space, which is in our kitchen, is comfortably big enough for a 10 seater (will obvs check exact dimensions) but it's lovely to have the extra space when we don't have guests so an extending table appeals. 4 or 6 seater extending to 10 ideally. I'd prefer that the extra leaves or whatever live within the table, rather than needing to be stored separately.
I'm fussy about the table surface material; I don't want glass (we are too messy). I don't love wood because stuff gets caught in the grain, but would consider. I need hard wearing because two youngish kids.
Budget - I'd pay £1200 or maybe a little more for a table that fits the bill perfectly and will last. But I'd pay much less for one that only 'ok'.
Appreciate experiences with different brands, or surface materials.
