I want to live in a Ch5 Christmas movie

I'd be skinny with long hair and full make up on at all times. I'd eventually meet a hunky man. I'd have a great career but would enjoy the Christmas break. My mum would be alive and cute and bake cookies. Her house would be gorgeous and full of twinkly lights.

And it would snow every year.

I live there. We sing carols around the tree on the village green. There's a lights festival when the tiny high street closes to traffic, and fairground rides and market stalls go up and the school children sing carols. We get our tree from the local farm and visit the newborn calves in their stalls. One Saturday near Christmas our local pub owner, who is a tv chef, always gives out free (bloody delicious) food and mulled wine around a blazing fire pit while the local choir sing yet more carols. On Boxing Day everyone gathers to watch a mummers play on the village green.
There are lots of tiny boutique shops and cosy cafes, nearby woods for frosty walks. I have been taking it for granted. Thinking about it, it is gorgeous at Christmas.

Where do you live? Sounds lovely.

I just started watching Virgin River and it kind of reminds me of a Christmas film (but not at Christmas!)

Thevelvelletes · 01/12/2024 11:18

Life in soft focus.
As a lot of those films have a subdued colour about them.

Channel 5 two every afternoon starting at 2pm 😁🎄🎄☃️🌨️🎁🧣❤️ enjoy!

Thank you!

I need more perfection in my very imperfect life 🤣

MannyTeddy · 01/12/2024 12:48

Love these too, even the predictability is comforting.

The heroine always has red lipstick on and swishy hair and the hunk has a cozy hand-knitted jumper and a manual job. He usually has a cute kid who is never in a bad mood. And definitely a mom making Christmas cake to feed the whole village on gala night.

I think the relentless American schmaltz would give me diabetes. Two hours is more than enough, then I need to go sit in my drizzly British garden and grumble at pigeons.

JMAngel1 · 02/12/2024 06:45

I just watched a good one on YouTube. Hallmark “Believe in Christmas”. It basically sends up the premise of all of the Christmas films - cynical beautiful brunette and kooky friend “observe” car breaking down, hunky City returns to small town rescue man, enter “Christmas Town”, obsess over hot chocolate, bake cookies, have toboggan ride, enter a contest, go to a gala, fall in love. So cheesy but it’s fab!

I do the book equivalent of this every December. I read about 5 of them...always blue and white covers, with glitter. Always a lovelorn woman going somewhere remote for Christmas to avoid all of the "perfect" stuff and ends up surrounded by exactly that and being won over, eventually encountering a grumpy neighbour / caretaker / nephew of the owner who had to come and check the track up to the house is free of snow.

the80sweregreat · 02/12/2024 07:01

It's the amount of decorations they have everywhere that amazes me! So much to pack away in the lofts in January.
Must take hours

Deathraystare · 02/12/2024 08:45

I liked the one on the Christmas channel (from September onwards!) called Christmas Eve which had a number of people trapped in a lift on Christmas Eve. Leonard's mum (big Bang Theory) was in it. She was in an orchestra. Everyone obvs anxious to get home for Christmas! She had a gun and was not afraid to use it!

Fireworknight · 02/12/2024 12:45

The hunk always has a cool name - Brad, Chuck, eyc. There’s never David or Paul or Fred.

henlake7 · 02/12/2024 13:21

and so many twinkle lights. I feel like anything looks 400 times better and more christmassy when covered in twinkle lights.

I was just saying that the other day, these films all have a formula and no-one appears to have the imagination to change them. Lazy film making.

so every woman has a red dress in!

Fireworknight · 04/12/2024 10:39

Just started watching a random Christmas film on Netflix (Meet me at Christmas) , and in the first scene, the main star has a red coat on!

Jabtastic · 04/12/2024 12:10

I'm determined to watch one of these movies on Friday afternoon with a large hot chocolate. I need some Christmas schmaltz in my life!

Jabtastic · 04/12/2024 14:45

I just switched on Channel 5 and this was the scene. It had it all! Overdecorated trees, candy canes, a smooch with an ex - all in the first ten seconds! 'Our Christmas Love Song' is the movie.

We've now reached sisters cooking together, an obedient child and a visiting country music star.

Candy canes. Does anyone actually eat these in real life? (And it’s not something I recall from my childhood).

We were in the USA earlier in the year. In one edge-of-town hotel the receptionist waxed lyrical about the local town, describing it as a "Hallmark Christmas movie town" - and it was too 😄

I can confirm the independent shops wrap purchases as a matter of course, hence the characters staggering around with pretty parcels.

The volume of Christmas decor in the big shops was breathtaking. They're clearly used to decorating whole towns.

hideawayforever · 05/12/2024 07:19

every character wears something thats red or green
