I want to live in a Ch5 Christmas movie

I'd be skinny with long hair and full make up on at all times. I'd eventually meet a hunky man. I'd have a great career but would enjoy the Christmas break. My mum would be alive and cute and bake cookies. Her house would be gorgeous and full of twinkly lights.

And it would snow every year.

Are they on at a certain time of day? You are all putting me in the mood to watch them!

Fireworknight · 01/12/2024 07:53

@XmasNameChangeFail My non-Christmas book I’m reading has been spoilt due to mn - rich heiress is recognised buy stranger in the street who is investing his past which happens to link up with her, and within a year they’re married. Did no one shout love-bomb to her (and it’s slowly coming out he’s broke…). Lots of red flags in it.

However, I’d also like to live in the perfect Christmas movies, but not the regular ones, whereby you’re always being stalked by your best friend, ex, neighbour, child’s school friends dad etc.

Look up Danica McKellar... she's in about a million of this type!

This is only the start of the list!

Or if they get stranded in a small snowy town theres still shops where they can buy enough extra warm christmassy jumpers , warm pants, ski boots, coats etc where they must surely use up their entire months salary or max out their credit card to pay for them- yet still have enough to buy everyone the wrapped gifts, huge hot chocs etc every day, and when they leave (in some they do, then have to return for the 'love of their life' who they've known for like, a few days) they still only have the one suitcase!(crafty that- maybe they leave all the new clothes behind as an excuse to return?)🤔

cazcaz2 · 01/12/2024 08:11

Oh ive not seen the 1 with all the xmas trees yet....my son, 21, fed up of all the films i watch(rom-coms) came back from uni for 4days, in october, saw me now having switched to CHRISTMAS rom- coms, says, "yeah same plot as all the rest, girl meets guy, something goes wrong, then its put right, they get together at end, get married etc etc, only now in a christmassy setting, blah blah blah" - He's not wrong😂

I would be an accomplished pianist (IRL an alumni of the Les Dawson school) and save the day with the town concert, playing my own composition, for which I had written all the orchestra parts in, say, 24 hours.

You should get a prize for mentioning les Dawson !

cazcaz2 · 01/12/2024 08:17

I started reading the info on a few last night, to choose one, and yes a few are Exactly the same plot, in every way- others are only slightly changed by throwing a job-offer or a sweet kid, or a grumpy awkward teenage kid (or both) in the mix, but deffo all have a happy ending, where the hot guy falls for them completely in a few days.Who wouldnt want their perfect life?

cazcaz2 · 01/12/2024 08:28

And when they do have a million coats & outfits crammed in one case, NOTHING is ever creased looking like mine are when i go on holiday🤨

I sort of do - I left a big corporate job and my work since then has been in extremely Christmas romcom type jobs in a very picturesque location. Sometimes if I'm feeling down I will imagine the Hallmark Movie version of my life and that often cheers me up. The reality is, of course, far less perfect. I'm fat, middle aged, my house is a tip and while I love my job it doesn't pay all that well. But I do feel lucky, although I'd now be one of the comedy locals or parents in someone else's story.

🤣

"Comedy locals" spot n!

cazcaz2 · 01/12/2024 08:36

Im a huge christmas movie watcher (while i knit, or wrap presents) but even I am getting bored already.Occasionally i mix it up with the ones where its a re-hash version of the 'Christmas Carol idea, where the main (mean) character sees the error of their ways.

cazcaz2 · 01/12/2024 08:39

But of course, they are all just a variation on same plot too😂

JMAngel1 · 01/12/2024 08:43

And the ones where the beautiful woman’s car breaks down so she’s held captive by the charming Christmas town against her will. She meets the car mechanic who then proceeds to show her the charms of said town over the course of four days as that’s how long it takes to get the part for the car. By then she’s smitten and stays forever in the arms of hunky mechanic.

Or the other version is she’s snowed in and the roads can’t be cleared so she’s held captive!

I definitely have my favourite actresses - love Lindy Booth, Candace Cameron Bure and Jill Wagner but my absolute favourite hunk of a man is Victor Webster. He usually plays a Scrooge type at the beginning who thaws and falls for the leading lady.

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 01/12/2024 08:50

DD is binge watching the "Good Witch" Hallmark series on Netflix. Every single woman lives in a huge, beautifully decorated and tidy house, paid for by running bustling little boutiques selling knick-knacks, flowers or cupcakes. The women are all slim (except for the mayor), coifed and beautiful. The men are all ruggedly handsome professionals or tradesmen. They all go to gala balls and it's Halloween every episode but they never age.

EveryoneKnowsJuanita · 01/12/2024 08:59

I love these films and will watch at least one every weekend day from mid November to January.

The thing that makes me raise an eyebrow - IF I was being picky - is the way the snow always blows around and goes upwards. Same in Bridget Jones, Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife. It’s as though Newton never existed!

WinterFoxes · 01/12/2024 09:12

I live there. We sing carols around the tree on the village green. There's a lights festival when the tiny high street closes to traffic, and fairground rides and market stalls go up and the school children sing carols. We get our tree from the local farm and visit the newborn calves in their stalls. One Saturday near Christmas our local pub owner, who is a tv chef, always gives out free (bloody delicious) food and mulled wine around a blazing fire pit while the local choir sing yet more carols. On Boxing Day everyone gathers to watch a mummers play on the village green.
There are lots of tiny boutique shops and cosy cafes, nearby woods for frosty walks. I have been taking it for granted. Thinking about it, it is gorgeous at Christmas.

Squeakymoo · 01/12/2024 09:24

I would like to know how they can make a 6 foot snowman out of pristine snow. Not one smudge of dog shit!

IlIlIlIlIlIlI · 01/12/2024 09:37

God no, couldn’t move for some twat trying to nab me as a stepmum for his daughter.

roycroppersshopper · 01/12/2024 09:39

I saw that too! Actually for the second time. I didn't clock Michelle Dotrice, I just had to Google her but now I realise who she is.

It was filmed in Knaresborough, I used to have a weekend job there in a cafe!

I wondered if the 'actors' who were in the supporting roles were just locals. The acting was so wooden!!! Awful!

I spent ages trying to figure out where I had seen the lead actor before, apart from last year and it was only at the end when they said it was Helen from ACGAS that I realised!

I love these films too, totally predictable but never disappointing!

Where do live?! Sounds delightful!

I want to know that too! I also want to know what @UnimaginableWindBird does for a living!

itsgettingweird · 01/12/2024 10:03

Absolutely brilliant thread title and OP!

I'm totally with you too!

It's like Mills and Boon for Tv - same story, different characters and as cheesy as fuck - but addictive 😂

MadKittenWoman · 01/12/2024 10:39

Love these! Completely predictable but the towns and the men are absolutely gorgeous
