Public loos!

We often talk about access to toilets on MN and I came across this select committee report today.

Look beyond retail to reverse high street decline, says new Lords report - Committees - UK Parliament

  • It says "Access to public toilets is particularly important for the elderly and families with young children. If they are not available it can stop them visiting their local high street, or reduce the amount of time they spend there. Local authorities must be proactive in using the many ways that exist to provide decent public toilets."

I wonder if anything will get done?

This was interesting too, though hardly rocket science:

Young people, especially young women, told the committee that they often do not feel safe on their local high street. Adequate street lighting, clear sightlines and “eyes on the street,” as well as a mix of uses including residential and those open into the night, can help to contribute to safer-feeling spaces.

It’s probably 18 months since I last went in to the nearest town, it was a sunny summer afternoon and it didn’t feel particularly safe even at that time .
I was there just over 30mins, I’d certainly not be in a rush to go back.
As for toilets, the shopping centre ones were locked some time ago due to anti social behaviour
