January 1st Birthday

Dd is going to be 17 on January 1st. Up until now, we've had family here for her birthday. She's a very family and home orientated person so she has loved this. We live in rural Wales, far away from extended family so it has felt like a treat to her.

This year, family can't stay that long and the two or three friends she might choose to spend time with are involved with family and church things away from here.

Obviously, most things will be closed.

I'm trying to think of something we could do that would be special. I've checked local cinemas etc and they're all closed. Town will be pretty dead.

I would be very grateful for any ideas. She's pretty undemanding but I can't see how she's not going to feel a bit flat and I'm totally stumped.

I'll run it by her but I'm not sure she'll be up for it. She loves having her birthday on the 1st (until this year, I fear).

Oh that's a shame for her, a tricky date of the year for sure.

Can you go out on Hogmany somewhere special and celebrate? I'm not sure if you have any local events on or a New Year's Eve party or dinner? Start celebrating early?

Then a nice brunch at home on the 1st, a walk somewhere, maybe even up a hill, a bit of an adventurous hill with lovely views? Then home for a special dinner?

It may be too late but can you book somewhere to go explore a city? Or go visit the family where they are?
