Grounding Sheets

Load of old rubbish or worth a go? I'm a terrible insomniac and it's been worse than even the last few months. Grounding sheets keep coming up on my feeds telling me they will make me sleep like a log. Has anyone got one and did it work?

I've got one and use it for anxiety for me and my children. I don't know if it's all a bunch of hooey but I like it, it could just be a placebo effect though.

HousedInMySoul · 27/11/2024 22:04

I had one but it didn't work for me 🤷

The physics of it is pretty much gobbledygook! If you were electrostatically charged just touching something like a radiator would earth you pretty instantaneously.

GameOfJones · 27/11/2024 22:11

It's a load of old bollocks! But that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work for you, the placebo effect can be strong.

Have you tried a weighted blanket and an eye mask? I have to go for sensory deprivation to get to sleep!

Bollocks.

I bought one and I am experiencing total inability to wake up! Is that normal? I am only a few days in.

I did look into it as it sounded like bollocks but there are actually several studies demonstrating an impact, including animal studies such as this one here
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39337279/

I am not sure if this fatigue is therapeutic in some way, part of some kind of initial reaction, or if the mat just doesn't suit me?

Effect of Earthing Mats on Sleep Quality in Rats - PubMed

Grounding, a therapeutic technique involving direct contact with the earth, has been proposed by various studies to potentially have beneficial effects on pressure, sleep quality, stress, inflammation, and mood. However, the scientific evidence support...

I want the total
Inability to wake up! I currently have a total inability to stay asleep. Maybe I can get my mum to get me one for Christmas, as she refuses to get me what I actually want, which is Zara vouchers. That way nothing lost I suppose.

They aren't very expensive. I got 2 for 39 quid iirc.

I mean - you can get very expensive sheets etc but for a trial I just got the inexpensive option.

Not all studies are equal. That one is sponsored by the makers of grounding mats. In itself that might not be a problem but from the pubmed abstract I can't tell what size the study was or whether it has been peer reviewed.

I just can't see that the physics makes sense. If you think that accumulation of charge may be effecting your sleep, you could try the following:

Make a long chain of metal paperclips (bare metal, not plastic covered) and use gaffa tape to stick it to your big toe or other area of bare skin. Then stick the other end to a radiator or central heating pipe. See how you sleep!!! You could experiment with finding a bit of bare metal in the radiator ( scrape a bit of paint off the side where it faces the wall) and see if that improves things.

Alternatively unroll some kitchen foil and put that under your sheet with the paperclip chain attached to that and the radiator! I'm not sure how electrically insulating a layer of sheet is but you put a sheet over a grounding mat so it should be similar!

Ive had good experiences with it, I learned about it via this school's research blog https://grounding.sites.umassd.edu/best-grounding-sheets-recommended-made-in-usa/ and reading the study above really confirmed my beliefs it did wonders for my sleep quality.

Just make sure buy direct as ones on Amazon could be bad quality from my experience
