Fell in the street - feeling battered

Honestly, I’m a physical wreck!

I fell flat on my face (literally) a few hours ago, slammed headlong onto the pavement. Thought I’d broken my jaw/cheek initially but think it’s just bruised and tender. Also managed to jar my wrist, and I think crack a rib 😔

Poor you! No advice as I am the clumsiest person ever and am known for falling on my arse or face. Solidarity and hope you feel better soon.

Hiddle1976 · 27/11/2024 21:05

Oh no it's a shock to fall like that, I would go and get checked over at A&E. I fell a few years ago and broke my scaphoid bone left it aching for a week before I got and xray.

Alwaysindependentlyopinionated · 27/11/2024 21:17

Oh that's horrible OP.

It really does give you an awful fright.

I slipped and fell at the beginning of September and broke my leg in 2 places.

It's a just a split second thing but can have really horrible consequences.

I hope your damage isn't too severe. I agree with pp you should get yourself checked out at A & E.

EVHead · 27/11/2024 21:25

I tripped and fell a couple of years ago - skinned my hand, scraped my favourite silver ring, chipped the frame of my glasses and walloped my knee off a paving slab. I was sure I’d broken it!

I sat with an ice pack on the knee and it got a lot better. I’m still wary of that stretch of pavement!

It gives you such a shock.

Stretchedresources · 27/11/2024 21:29

Oh bless you. Have you been to A&E? Don't risk ignoring something serious and it heals badly.

I fell over in a rock pool a couple of weeks ago. It hurt like hell for a couple of hours but all I had was an impressively scabby knee.

ghostbusters · 27/11/2024 21:44

I agree about getting yourself checked out at minor injuries or similar.

I slipped over on some ice, after a few glasses of wine, many years ago. Had my hands in my pockets and landed on my chin. Didn't think I'd done any damage, my jaw ached a bit until a ate a packet of crisps the next day. Ouch it was so sore chewing down on them! I never did get checked out as I was a stupid teenager. No lasting damage, thankfully!

Juno86 · 27/11/2024 21:47

Oh I fell badly once. I was wearing stupid shoes. Walking along the street with two friends and I just absolutely decked it. Honestly thought I’d broken my wrist. Friends were absolutely wetting themselves laughing (to be fair I think they were in a bit of shock too!) and I had to laugh it off when I just wanted to cry 🥲

from standing onto head warrants a visit to a&e

do you know why you fell?

newnamenellie · 28/11/2024 15:33

Thank you all for your responses and kind words.

I went to A&E today. They x-rayed my face and my wrist and said no fractures. Didn’t x-ray the rib but I know that’s cracked or bruised as I’ve had it before and recognise the pain! I’m feeling very stiff and sore today but better for having been checked out.

I tripped over my shoelace which I hadn’t noticed had come undone 🙈

Oh gosh, you poor thing! Please pop to a local walk-in centre and get checked over, particularly if you think you might have cracked a rib. You'll be feeling really shaken up I imagine, it's horrible when something like that happens. Take care of yourself and take it easy for the next week, please! Flowers

loropianalover · 28/11/2024 15:37

Wow OP you must have fallen hard!! Glad you’ve been seen too.

When I was younger I once fell on an icy pavement outside a sex shop! Fell flat on my back and roared with the pain, couldn’t catch a grip on the ground to get back up and the man working in the shop had to come out and help me. I dread to think of what people across the road thought of me legless falling about under a neon ‘Sexy Angels’ sign.

robinsrace · 28/11/2024 15:39

Sorry, just read that you've been to A&E and I'm so glad! ❤️ Please rest up and take painkillers if needed, you must be so sore

Beebumble2 · 28/11/2024 15:52

Sorry to hear this, glad you’re ok. I know what you feel like a couple of weeks ago, someone put the kerb in the wrong place! Down I went, I could believe that there were no broken bones only a bruised hand. I did fell shaken for a while.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 28/11/2024 16:10

Oh no. You poor thing. Same thing happened to me a few years ago. My foot missed the curb in the dark and I came crashing down on one knee. Excruciating. Hopefully no rib broken and its only painful bruising.

MrsCarson · 28/11/2024 16:13

Go get yourself checked out, you poor thing.
I had a near miss today. Shopping I squatted down the grab something from a bottom shelf. had a wobble nearly fell backwards. My legs aren't what they were. Getting older sucks.

peachgreen · 28/11/2024 16:15

I feel for you, OP. I slipped playing chase with my daughter and fell flat on my face from a height (my legs literally flew out from under me!) and I honestly couldn’t believe how much it hurt. Hope you get some rest and the pain eases. Lots of ibuprofen!

Noseybookworm · 28/11/2024 16:45

Ouch! You poor thing 😔 rest up 💐

MaidOfSteel · 28/11/2024 17:45

It's good that you were checked over at the hospital, OP.

I'm prone to falls and had a particularly nasty one where my head hit the floor, badly grazing & bruising one side of my face and cracking a tooth. My knees were a mess as it was so hard for me to get back up. The worst bit, though, is the shock. The loss of control. I still can see it all in my mind, almost in slow motion.

Take it easy for a while; your body has had one heck of a jolt I hope you're feeling brighter soon.
