This is a depressing read - I'm only on £26k (full time) for local council

auberginepeel · 26/11/2024 21:54

@YourBusyTurtle oh and I was part time for a chunk of that period too, doesn't mean you can't keep plotting, preparing and upskilling :)

Can I just ask those of you earning over £70k what do you do with your £? I just can’t fathom having that amount of disposable income!

I pay my child's private school feels + food, clothes, whatever is needed for the house. I save about 10% as well. I pay for our holidays as well.

People with such income often have high mortgages or private school fees so it's spent more easily than you think. :)

28k, transport planner within supply chain.
6 years experience but no qualifications past GCSE level.

I'm always shocked to see how little nurses and teachers are paid.

If you think that's poor look at Drs salary!

Helpfullright · 26/11/2024 21:56

What do doctors earn then?

spottedinthewilds · 26/11/2024 21:56

Small business owner £85k

I spend my money on holidays. Being self employed with a team working for me I can take time off easily.

@Hoplittlebunnyonrepeat did you know there’s a qualification you can get?

@YourBusyTurtle very high earners here. We consider ourselves fortunate that we can afford to give a lot to our adult children so that they don't have to suffer because of the COL. Otherwise we live quite simply but put money in savings every month and spend a lot on holidays and eating out with our lovely family. DH has a nice new car but I drive an ancient tatty Skoda and we live in a modest semi - I'm sure most people we know have no idea what we earn and from outward appearances would probably be staggered if they knew.

Scottishskifun · 26/11/2024 21:57

76k civil servant 8 years in role 15 years experience.
It sounds a lot but after pension and tax (scottish system so for me about 2k/year then RUK) and private nursery for a 2 year old 4 days a week full time (no 2s funded hours in Scotland unless UC) it soon disappears. Can't even say its an expensive house live in a 2 bed with 4 of us!

needmorecoffeeandcake · 26/11/2024 21:57

Primary head teacher £65k
first year as head
deputy for 10 years before this
class teacher for 6 years before that

LadySlipper · 26/11/2024 21:58

Civil Servant. Deputy Health & Safety Advisor. Been in this role for 9 years. Just had a pay rise that takes me up to just over £30,000.

Copernicus321 · 26/11/2024 21:59

Salary now £0. I'm a late-boomer that never returned to work after Covid. Remote working didn't do it for me.

Bunny2006 · 26/11/2024 22:00

3x days a week, £14.5k, veterinary receptionist. Done this role for 7/8 years and enjoy it, part time works with a toddler :)

ThatTealViewer · 26/11/2024 22:00

£450-650 per day (depending on the project), Development Consultant.

Late 30’s, London.

BurntBroccoli · 26/11/2024 22:00

Charity sector experienced admin and degree educated.
Part time and just under £20k for 22 hours.
I'm definitely looking for another job as I feel massively underpaid looking at these wages!

Rugs1 · 26/11/2024 22:00

£160k - banking, can’t afford private school 😆

Buttermill · 26/11/2024 22:01

Band 5 nurse potential to earn up to 38k Monday to Friday but I work four days a week 30 hours so about 31k a year. I dont work weekends, overtime or bank holidays within my new role. I do in theory alot of unpaid "unofficial overtime" at home to try and keep up with the demand from my job so in theory the pay is rubbish.

Edited to include on top of my pay I do get help from universal credit to cover my childcare fees as full time single mum to one also. It really doesn't stretch far

MummyNurseWifi · 26/11/2024 22:01

Nurse 65k

Mumplus01 · 26/11/2024 22:01

110k commercial manger in construction. Been doing it for 15 years. Private healthcare and decent pension.

Your mistake is to think it’s disposable! I struggle to make ends meet at the minute, life is very expensive - I can’t afford to save to buy a house…. Over half my salary goes on rent, childcare fees and debt accrued with am ex… single parent, two kids, senior HR Manager.

It’s not as much as you think it will be, truthfully. Pay more tax and not entitled to any help.

Once debt paid I’ll have approximately £300 disposable income.

TiramisuThief · 26/11/2024 22:02

School data manager 42k (term time only so FTE would be more)

Fluffybagel · 26/11/2024 22:02

£50k plus bonus. Category manager in procurement.

DH is on about the same more or less. Joint income of around 6.5-7k depending on overtime.

I have around 1.5k disposable income, I save into stocks and shares isas and for holidays, buy what I want and do what I fancy. Very fortunate and we have a small mortgage! Nowhere near what we could borrow.
