Car recommendation - small automatic

23 year old is looking to buy a car, she currently has use of a Fiesta but really needs her own.

She drives manual but wants an automatic now. She has about £5K in savings and we can help her out.

Any recommendations for a reliable small automatic that’s not too expensive to insure? I’ve heard that brand new with a finance plan is sometimes better than second hand.

I'm looking for something similar for my 20yo son to learn to drive in. I'm thinking about a VW Polo, small engine to keep the insurance down.

But we live abroad and it will also be the family car when we visit the UK instead of my Ford Galaxy - a rather radical downsize.

She definitely wants automatic! No, we’re in London.

I was also going to say Yaris, I know a couple of young people who have that and happy with them.

Anything with a DSG gearbox has my vote! Little skodas, Audis, VWs. Vauxhall autos don’t seem to go wrong particularly often in my experience either.

I work in a garage and I only really see mercs with transmission issues, or manual vehicles needing clutches 😌

Best car ever; no road tax, 400 or so miles per tankful, easy to drive and park, and surprisingly nippy

DD has an automatic polo that she absolutely loves and has been a great and v reliable car.

The Korean brands are the way to go at this level . Small Kia Picassso or Hyundai 110. Good value, good reliability and use a proper automatic gearbox which is very rare in small cars
